The Vatican printed phony passports, phony documents of all sorts, in order to help Jews escape Europe. They melted down gold chalices and sold other precious artifacts to buy bread for Jewish refugees hiding out in Italy. Pius XII personally ordered all monasteries and convents to hide Jews and every morning for years sent trucks out of the Vatican loaded with bread and foodstuff to meet the demands of the religious houses hiding Jews. He himself hid Jews in the Vatican and at his summer palace. He even refused to eat or drink anything not also avalable for the thousands of Jewish refugees in his secret care. This is what has made the attacks against his memory so evil--they are slanders against a just and holy man.
