Kinda a shock to many.
I’m seeing a lot of stage/TV preachers who write books.
More money, I guess. However, I do like Joyce Myers and Joseph Prince’s delivery. Entertaining, makes sense and not boring.
Genius? What hole did it come out of?
I’ve never heard of him, but I did see Vampire Lesbians of Sodom back in the early 90s on stage in Chicago. Not really my thing, but as I recall, it was rather funny. Not as much nudity as I was told to expect, though.
3.5 stars, don’t recommend.
Video available on YouTube, if you’re interested.
That was Jack Hibbs who promoted his book. I bought it. I read it. It was good.
Jack interviewed him as part of His “Happening Now” services. He gave a really weird testimony of how he claims to have become a believer. It was weird. He saw some image in a dream. I don’t recall him saying anything about repenting of his sins. I really didn’t understand how that dream was in any way relevant to being a response to the gospel. IIRC, his story didn’t include repentance.
The rest of the interview was fine, but it was long on politics and short on theology.
This video is pretty disturbing both politically and religiously.
He’s a very good writer who has written some sound history books, including a biography of the WW2 pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was killed by the Nazis. He also has a series of talks called “Socrates in the City” in which he has discussions/interviews with prominent thinkers. I don’t care for his sillly sense of humor but I never thought he’d say dumb things like this.
How people buy into anti-obvious-reality never ceases to amaze me. Paul in Romans 1 is the only answer
... God gives them over to a depraved mind. My guess is that his repentance was lacking, as you suggest.
He’s been fishy for awhile.
He’s a wolf.
Interesting..
Does that interview and promotion of the book by Hibbs sour your opinion of him also?
Here is a link to the interview.

The interview was pretty good. Jack asked him at one point how he came to the Lord and he gave this weird response about some dream and his interpretation of the dream somehow led him to faith. I recall Jack getting this strange look on his face when he gave his “testimony”.
I rummaged through the video to see if I could find it, but I think they may have edited it out.
I haven’t heard the whole story about this conversation with Milo, but it soured my opinion of Metaxas. It really exposes him as either a hypocrite or a phony.
I’ll wait to see Metaxas’ response to this leaked video.
Does it sour me on Hibbs? No way. In my opinion Jack Hibbs is the real deal. The best Bible teacher since Chuck Smith.
The only Bible Teacher that comes close to Jack Hibbs, in my opinion is Pastor Steve Santos of Calvary Chapel Westside Maui.
I’m praying that his church survived the fire. I haven’t been able to confirm it as West Maui is pretty much locked out of phone service.
Pray for him and his church!!
Thanks for the response.
There’s always been something that didn’t sit well with me regarding Metaxas.
I like Jack. Good solid teacher.
This is a puzzle. Metaxes seemed sincere with Hibbs. Is it possible to rescue a seed getting strangled by thorns?
In any case, i think heitzig is very clear, very simple, and consistently biblical.
