From Canterbury to Rome: Why the Queen’s Former Chaplain Became Catholic
National Catholic Register ^ | 8 March 2020 | KV Turley

Posted on 09/16/2020 3:24:24 AM PDT by Cronos

From 2008-2017, Ashenden was Anglican chaplains assigned to the queen. ...

Why did he decide to become a Catholic? “Slowly, but surely over the last 10 years it became clearer, both in my mind and in my prayers, that what the Catholic Church taught, particularly about the Mass, was not only true, but had always been true, from the Apostolic Fathers onwards.” ...

lacking a magisterium, there was no way [for the Anglican Communion] to draw together a coherent theological resistance to the spiritual decadence that this created.”

".. becoming Catholic was rather like climbing up the river, past the crosscurrents of the polluted and confused waters downstream, and returning to the source where the river was purer and stronger.” ...nothing can prepare one for the joy and experience of the moment of being fully reconciled. It has been described so aptly and so often as a ‘coming home.’ It was a deep joy to receive the Holy Eucharist .. “More interestingly, there have appeared large numbers of people who have written to me saying, ‘We have a deep instinctive sense that you are right, and what you have done is true and real, but we need help working it through ourselves; please help us in our journey, thinking and praying so that we can find the courage and clarity to follow you [into the Church].’”

...Ashenden : “Facing as we do a more determined and aggressively progressive culture on one side, and a demographic future that will see over half the population following Islam by 2050, I want to strongly suggest to my former community that only the Catholic Church has the clarity of self-understanding, and the spiritual history and resources, to face both these enormous challenges to our neighbors’ souls and well-being now, and, more importantly, after death.”

This seems to be an apt statement about the movements of the 1500s - ‘a 500-year-old experiment that has just failed.’”

The outspoken prelate became a global media celebrity after he objected to the reading of the Koran at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Koranic chapter on Mary, read from the lectern at the service of Holy Communion, on the Feast of the Epiphany 2017, explicitly denied the divinity of Jesus.

Under pressure from Buckingham Palace, Dr. Ashenden resigned his royal chaplaincy in order to be free to challenge the rising tide of apostasy in the Church of England.

People knock Francis but the Angelicans are miles ahead when it comes to hitting the gas pedal toward making themselves irrelevant.

Quite frankly, the Anglicans have been on this road for centuries. I re-read (or rather listened to) Pride and Prejudice and was struck by how the religious landscape in England was already in deep decay in the 1700s

You mean he was pressured to resign because of he as opposing the Koran reading?

Did Queen Elizabeth II go full, "Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?"

True, but what a choice. At times I think that John Cleese has a better grasp of Theology than Francis and would make a better Pope. But the Holy Spirit knows what He is doing, and I’m grateful that He is willing to accept me. John Cleese’s theology is not very accurate either, but he I imagine that he is both not a committed practical universalist and is not as judgmental as some. I’m sure his liturgical tastes would be more to my liking than the present Pontiff’s, and he has a sense of humour, or at least one more akin to mine.

(FWIW I’m not a cradle Catholic, but I am very grateful I came in when my Mom did, and consider it a great grace to not have had to figure out whether or not I wanted to put up with the mess that the Church evidently is—though admittedly I am part of the problem).

I’m a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They’ll take you as soon as you’re warm

Who in their right mind would want to become a Catholic with this Pope from hell and homosexual child sex abuse holding reign, condoned and covered up at the highest levels?

Someone touched by the grace of God.

Who in their right mind would die on the cross for the likes of me (or of you?). See my previous post.

Being a Christian and being Catholic(with a Pope from hell and pedophiles in control) are not even close to being the same.

That is a problem for all movements which are not original, even those that have some grace in them.

Because Francis is just the latest (#266) in bishops of rome. He’ll go as well, but the Church established in 33 AD by Christ is eternal as Jesus promised. humans have failings, but God created His community, His nation of believers and protects it - despite the best efforts of bishops to destroy it :)

Being a Catholic IS being a Christian - and has been since 33 AD along with our brothers in the Orthodox, Oriental and Assyrian Churches - and many in the post 1500 groups.

I don’t know what weird Mormon or Adventist or Witnesses or Christian Scientist theology you hold to, but Jesus said to trust in the teaching He passed down through His apostles.

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:18-19).
The heretics and apostates always seem to forget this one.

You can’t be a Christian and condone and cover up pedophilia like the Catholic Church has been doing for decades.
The current Pope is more akin to a messenger from Satan than a servant of God.

I would call Roman Catholicism a 1500 year experiment that has finally failed.

Never mind about what denomination I may or may not belong to. It's you who belongs to the Catholic Church, an institution that is steeped in corruption of every kind through and through and is anything but Christian in the way they act.

I’m not talking about whatever grouping you belong to, as the text in your posts does signify a falling away from Christ.

Corrupt institutions formed since the 1500s are the ones that die away. As you see in the Unitarians - formed in the late 1500s and dead by 1990. Ditto for various other post 1500 groupings - they are built on sand.

Christ alone protects His church and has done so for the past 2000 years

It is a homosexual, not a pedophilia, problem. The use of the term pedophilia is part of the cover up. As a Catholic I neither condone nor want to cover it up. I want it exposed and removed, just like I want the crimes of the deep state exposed and punished rather than denouncing my US citizenship.

The recent problems with homosexual infiltration and abuse in the Church are that of sinful men who are going against Catholic teaching; it is not a problem of the nature of the Catholic Church itself. Protestant churches have the same problem. While I reject Protestantism, I do not trot out the open acceptance of homosexuality by many Protestant churches to bolster my position. I recognize that these people are going against the foundational teachings of Protestants, just as the homosexuals within the Catholic Church are going against the foundational teachings of the Catholic Church.

And you would be wrong

1. it’s not 1500 years old, but nearly 2000 (read the Didache)

2. it’s not failing - the Anglicans, Calvinists etc. are the one’s failing, like the Arians, etc. before them

3. it’s faced tribulations in the past - like the great tribulation of 64 to 67 AD. This time will also pass

in terms of relationship, in orthodoxy there is the fullness of the relationship with Christ - mind, body and soul.

in the Divine Liturgy and the Eucharist we listen to the word of God, we then view the One-time sacrifice of the Lord, and then we experience the totality of God’s grace through the eating of His body, then in prayer we experience the soul satisfying relationship with God.

So the mind-body-soul relationship is in the fullness of orthodoxy

Real Christianity as seen in orthodoxy, in the One Holy Catholic church (as well as our sister Eastern Orthodox, Oriental and Assyrian church), is not a religion, but a relationship with God, based on putting one’s faith in Christ's death on Calvary and His resurrection from the dead, His glorification and commemorating what He taught.
