The issue for atheists is that they do not have an ultimate standard for determining right and wrong.
By the logic of the article it isn't just atheists, it's non-Judeo Christians.
Almost every society that's existed has had some sense of morality, almost all based on the golden rule, but they certainly didn't recognize the same gods.
Maybe there's something practical about basic morality where people can see what works without having to be told by a deity?
