Indeed, but at the risk of arguing with myself, hypocrisy was the principal sin Our Lord called out against the Pharisees. In any event, neither path is a good one.

I like what C.S. Lewis said about hypocrisy.
The gist of it:
If you’re starting off BAD, and trying to become good, and imitating good is all you can manage, hypocrisy is good, you’re improving.
If you’re starting off GOOD, and rotting on the inside, and only pretending to look good on the outside for appearances, hypocrisy is bad.
