The Irish have had an interesting relationship with Rome dating back to the 12th century, when the Papacy backed the Anglo-Norman invasion of the knight Richard de Clare (Strongbow) followed by his Liege Lord Henry II, and the forceful "Romanization" of Irish Catholicism. Following the conversion of the Irish by St. Patrick, which involved adaptation to established local customs, the Irish church had been enormously successful and actually led the "Dark Ages" restoration of Christianity in Scotland, Britain, and the Continent. But Rome would not tolerate an independent and free thinking monastic based church and Ireland was brought into line. Abuses by the church in Ireland, including the virtual slavery of women and girls in the Magdelene "Asylums" are famous and Francis' apostasy and tolerance of priestly sodomy may be kicking over a long sleeping hornets nest.

But you need your Pope to step up... or step down. Time to be open about this. Shine the light on it and the crimes and sins will not be able to survive.

I thought Francis’ eschewing the trappings of the office was nothing but hubris on his part. There was nothing humble about it. He is a vile man who knew about the deep homosexual and pedophilia vein in the CC and did nothing about it.

Worse, maybe in a few isolated situations, but the homosexual problem in Roman Catholicism has been going on for over 1,000 years, and who knows how long the abuse of boys has been part of that.

And the cover up is beyond excuse or being excusable.

Roman Catholicism doesn’t deserve to survive this and they have forfeited the right to call themselves the body of Christ with the kind of sordid, corrupt, immoral history it has to show for itself.

The bigger tragedy is the spiritual damage done to people by priests all in the name of Christ, men who claim to have the power to send people to heaven or hell, and claim to represent Christ here on earth.

In 2002, the homoclerical demonocracy that currently runs the institutions of the Church cleaned up some of the most vile symptoms of the problem.
