Cardinal Burke: U.S. Catholic Church in ‘Possibly the Worst Crisis that It’s Ever Experienced’

August 16, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – The Catholic Church in the U.S. is undergoing “possibly the worst crisis that it’s ever experienced” right now, Cardinal Burke said tonight of the ongoing sex abuse scandals and the laity’s distrust for bishops who play a part in it.

“That has to be recognized and it has to be dealt with in a thorough manner which is faithful to the Church’s moral law and to the Church herself and to the office of the bishops,” Burke, the former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and one of orthodox Catholics’ most beloved cardinals, told EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo.

“I have just completed practically a month’s visit to the United States and I’ve never heard so much anger, so much disappointment, so much frustration from good Catholic faithful,” the cardinal said.

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro released a much-awaited grand jury report on decades of sex abuse and Church cover-up across six different dioceses. The report names 301 priests accused of horrific sex abuse and the various bishops who were involved in keeping the cases quiet.

The grand jury report “needs to be studied carefully,” said Burke, “but it would seem to indicate too, that there was a…failure on [the] part of certain bishops.”

The Pennsylvania report was released in the wake of revelations that Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington, D.C., had sexually harassed and abused seminarians and priests over decades. This came to light alongside revelations that he sexually abused children, including the first person he ever baptized.

In the early 1980’s a colleague of mine showed me a VHS tape of an elderly brother from some order in her homestate of MN who was railing against the takeover of the Church and its seminaries by homosexuals. I guess he was correct.

At this point, it’s difficult to have any sympathy for the Catholic Church USA. You have known about these sodomite, child-molesting bastards for 70 years and did nothing or covered up for them.

You should have been turning them over to the police INSTANTLY. You should have been seeking criminal prosecutions and sentences for the maximum allowed by law.

It will get ugly if it’s not. I think it is too late to change it.

The Catholic organization has had pedophile priests for centuries. they just choose to do nothing about it for fear of losing their precious money.

These people have to be purged out of the various ministries of the Church and immediately turned over to civil authorities, no matter what the ramifications are. Let the chips fall where they may.

Yes, the watchman is given orders in Ezekiel 33. I know it’s long, but it is complete. Also, the pastors and priests of the church should be watchman, not predators. Those who do not speak up allow the predator to strike again and give Satan a foothold in their churches. Why is the church (Catholic and Protestant) losing members? How many times does a dog bite someone before being chained?

Ezekiel 33 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Watchman’s Duty

1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, ‘If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows on the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then he who hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’

7 “Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand. 9 But if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life.

10 “Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus you have spoken, saying, “Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are rotting away in them; how then can we survive?”’ 11 Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’ 12 And you, son of man, say to your fellow citizens, ‘The righteousness of a righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his transgression, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not stumble because of it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; whereas a righteous man will not be able to live by his righteousness on the day when he commits sin.’ 13 When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die. 14 But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and practices justice and righteousness, 15 if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes which ensure life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 16 None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall surely live.

17 “Yet your fellow citizens say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right,’ when it is their own way that is not right. 18 When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, then he shall die in it. 19 But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them. 20 Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.”

The American Catholic Church has been called “the church with no backbone” for decades.

However, we never see Roman Catholics jump on other Roman Catholics for all of the anti-Francis articles.

Both of you are correct. For centuries, influential and wealthy Catholic families in Europe and the Western Hemisphere sent their homosexual sons to the seminary. Donations flowed into church coffers, and their presence was a carefully guarded secret. The homosexual priests became a fairly powerful minority and they protected, and continue to protect their own. Any homosexual priest who got into trouble was assigned to different duties, or relocated to another diocese. Victims and their families were bullied into silence.

In the next post, I'm going to provide links to a Washington Post article, a Boston Globe article, and a Newsweek article that admit there are a very large number of Catholic priests who are homosexual, and the sexual abuse problem is almost entirely homosexual. Also the data from the 2016 USCCB study showed that more than 80% of abusing priests are same sex attracted, and more than 90% of the victims are post-pubescent. They're attracted to teenaged (adolescent) boys who are vulnerable.

I went through 12 years of Catholic schooling. My guess is that about 90% of the clergy who ran my all boys high school were gay. This was in the early-mid 90’s. If anyone comes after you for criticizing the Church, you can send them to me. You have my permission to speak the truth without being jumped on.

A couple of my stories:

There was one brother who taught me freshmen year old testament. He was cool and made class fun. He seemed a little light on the loafers, but I wasn’t totally for sure that he was gay. At the time, there seemed to be a little bit of a blur between devout piety and homosexuality. I’m now convinced that that was just my naivety - if there’s ever any doubt, he’s gay.

Anyway, this brother eventually became a priest and then president of the school. Then I read several years ago that he was discipled and removed for having a gay relationship with one of the students. The report said the student was 18 when it started, but I have my doubts.

When I was in elementary school, another priest was family friends with one of my buddies. One day he took us into “the city” to do some touring around. We did some sightseeing, and it was a pretty ordinary day. At one point we were walking past a sex shop and he suggested that we go in. So, we did. There wasn’t any more to the story than that. This priest seemed to be more of a guy’s guy, so it could have been him trying to be the cool friend who was also a priest. But, I could have also had a bad read on him. It was just really weird.

"Conservative" Catholics still want to retain their beliefs in historical criticism of the Bible and evolutionism. They continue to deny that these ideas in any way whatsoever led to the current crisis.

They want the Middle Ages with evolution.

Luther has been proven correct on the celibacy doctrine of the RCC. Celibacy is an unnatural and harmful denial of the human body God created. The average brain is about 1400 cubic centimeters. Although all the data are not in, many neuroscientists believe that some 400 cubic centimeters are dedicated to sexual function in one way or another. The Augustinian/Cartesian mind/body divide so essential to much of Catholic doctrine is a mistake. We are our bodies.

Celibacy gained serious canonical favor in the RCC only after property law became more firmly established in Europe. The Church was determined to keep its vast properties under the control of Rome, and it wanted to avoid inheritance disputes among married priests with progeny.

As a consequence of clerical celibacy, the Church for centuries has made itself a safe harbor for men and women with sexual “issues.” We see the results in these horrific scandals.

“It doesn’t seem reasonable to me to think that other prelates didn’t know about” McCarrick’s pederasty, Burke said.

Here we go again. Trying to minimize the sexual abuse of a minor by referring to it as pederasty. When you sexually assault an 11 year old, that is pedophilia, not pederasty. The catholic church just wants this to go away and then it's back to business as usual. God knows how young the youngest of McCarrick's victims was.
