Ex-President of Ireland Says Baptism Creates “Infant Conscripts”

LEICESTER, United Kingdom - Baptizing babies is a violation of their human rights, according to the former president of Ireland.

Mary McAleese, who served in the largely ceremonial role of president from 1997-2011, also said she would not attend the Aug. 22-26 World Meeting of Families taking place in Dublin.

She told the Irish Times the event, which Pope Francis will attend Aug. 25-26, will only serve as a “political rally” for the “reinforcement of orthodoxy.”

McAleese told the newspaper that by baptizing children before they have reached the age of reason, the Church is creating “infant conscripts who are held to lifelong obligations of obedience.”

“You can’t impose, really, obligations on people who are only two weeks old and you can’t say to them at seven or eight or 14 or 19 ‘here is what you contracted, here is what you signed up to’ because the truth is they didn’t,” she said.

Declaring that in the past “people didn’t understand that they had the right to say no, the right to walk away,” the former Irish president said “we live now in times where we have the right to freedom of conscience, freedom of belief, freedom of opinion, freedom of religion and freedom to change religion. The Catholic Church yet has to fully embrace that thinking.”

McAleese is a practicing Catholic who holds a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Her book Quo Vadis? Collegiality in the Code of Canon Law was published in 2012.

"Baptizing babies is a violation of their human rights, according to the former president of Ireland."

But aborting them isn't?

The Prime Minister of Ireland is gay. ‘nuff said. Yeah, I know Obama was too, but he at least pretended.

Same here. The DNC would criminalize Christianity if they had the power. That is the end game - global secular Marxism enforced with brutal violence.

They are not contracted to do anything if the christian God isnt real. If the christian God is real they still arent until confirmation when they are old enough to make a decision.

That’s for certain. and people like Obama, Holder, Brennan and Lynch would be the enforcers.

Ok, I’m not Catholic so I don’t believe in infant baptism. However, her contention that it is a violation of their “human rights” is absurd.

By her reasoning, simply taking your children to any church would also be a violation of their human rights as well, correct? Forcing them to go to school, go to a doctor - same thing.

Any type of philosophical or ethical teaching, whether secular or sacred, would be a violator too.

I guess it comes down the whether or not parents have the right to religiously educate their own children, or, it is the State that has this right?

I go with the parents. I have a suspicion that the ex-president would go with the State.

Sure, a little sprinkle on the head is going to traumatize them for life.

If circumcision doesn’t traumatize someone for life, I am pretty sure sprinkled water won’t.

meanwhile:

16 Jun: Irish Central: Archenemies Hillary Clinton and James Comey will be in Dublin on the same day next week
Both the former US Secretary of State and the former FBI boss will be in the capital city on Friday, June 22 for separate events, Extra.ie reports...
Next week, Clinton, 70, will be awarded an honorary degree at Trinity College. Before the ceremony, she will deliver a public lecture at noon at the Edmund Burke Lecture Theatre. This will be followed by a conversation with former Irish President and Chancellor of the University Mary Robinson to “explore her views on democracy, women in politics and the current challenges facing American society,” according to a press release.

Meanwhile, Comey, 57, will be appearing at the Irish Film Institute at 6pm for a conversation with Huge Linehan of the Irish Times to promote his new book A Higher Loyalty. He will speak about the 2016 election and his interactions with President Trump before he was fired...

why am I reminded of the Clinton/Lynch tarmac meeting?

21 Jun: Joe Ireland: “I feel badly” - Former FBI Director James Comey responds to Hilary Clinton’s claim that he sabotaged her campaign
James Comey and Hilary Clinton are both in Dublin on Friday.
by Dave Hanratty
Asked what he might say were he to cross paths with Clinton, Comey hoped for something approaching a resolution between the pair.
“I’ve never spoken to her, I’ve never met her,” he began.
“But if I did meet her on St. Stephen’s Green I would ask her if she’s had the chance to read that part of my book, just about those decisions, because I honestly don’t think you can learn about those decisions and walk away thinking that we were intending to harm her in some way.
“You may disagree with the decisions, but we made them in good faith, and that’s one of the things that the inspector general concluded. There was no bias. We were trying to do the right thing by the values of our institution, and I would ask her that.”...
“That makes me feel badly. That makes me feel badly that she’s carrying around that kind of pain, and I would say that I hope you would at least read that part of my book, because I think it may change your view about whether you were shivved or not.”...

You have to wonder how many people still believe in “The Syllabus of Errors” by Pope Pius IX, 1864.

80. The Roman Pontiff can, and ought to, reconcile himself, and come to terms with progress, liberalism and modern civilization.- -Allocution “Jamdudum cernimus,” March 18, 1861.

Baptized? Not baptized? Confirmed? Not confirmed? I'm not sure these are even the most basic distinctions.

It is truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

You are not "contracted" for this obligation. Every human person owes God gratitude and worship simply because they exist: in consideration of the inescapable fact that He is our Creator and we are His creatures.

Glad you caught that. If she really believes what she said, her “real belief” is atheism.

The way she talks it doesn’t sound like she has the foggiest notion about what infant baptism is about.

They should revoke her license.
