Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Onaiyekan Suggests Priests Will Now Have To Protect Themselves; Calls On President Buhari To Retire.

In the aftermath of the killing of two Reverend Fathers and other parishioners in a Catholic Church in nBeue State some days ago, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan has decried the level of security in the country in the face of the sustained killings.

Accusing the security operatives of standing by and watching as Nigerians are massacred, the clergy suggested that Priests and other worshipers alike might have to pick up guns and other weapons in a bid to protect themselves.

He also condemned the Government’s inability to provide internal security of lives and properties, urging that it should not push its citizens too hard.

Archbishop Onaiyekan also flirted with the idea of a war but noted that they keep praying against it as according to him, ‘Peace is less expensive.’

...but if they carry guns, THOUSANDS of young Nigerian girls will be abducted and forced into child-marriage and slavery.

...oh, never mind.

I seem to remember about Jesus telling his disciples to sell their cloak to buy a sword.

Might have to carry guns to protect themselves against the angry parents of altar boys that they molested.

If we had a real pope, he’d reestablish the Knights Templar.

Luke 22:36
He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one."

This is not a command that armed combat should be central to our identity as Christians (see Luke 22:38 So they said, "Look, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," He answered). This is, however, proof that armed self-defense and the armed defense of the innocent are completely consistent with Christianity. The Archbishop made the right call here.
