Fr. Gabriele Brusco, close to family, forced out of England by UK bishops

LIVERPOOL, England (ChurchMilitant.com) - After pressure from the English bishops, a priest who ministered closely to the Alfie Evans' family is being forced to return to Italy. He will not be permitted to attend Alfie's funeral, scheduled for Friday.

Father Gabriele Brusco, who offered continual spiritual assistance to the sick toddler in his final days, also withdrew his request for incardination in the diocese of Westminster, after a meeting called by Auxiliary Bishop John Sherrington on May 2.

"The duration and contents of the interview are top secret, by express wish of Abp. Sherrington," reported Riccardo Cascioli of La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, "but it must not have been a particularly pleasant occasion if at the end of the conversation Father Gabriele decided to withdraw the request for incardination in the diocese of Westminster."

Brusco had been in England for two and a half years, discerning whether he might join the Westminster diocese. When he read in the news that the Evans family was having difficulty finding a priest to offer on-the-spot spiritual assistance, Brusco immediately offered his services. In Alfie's last days, Brusco returned and remained continually by Alfie's bedside for three days and three nights.

Thankfully, Alfie’s soul is beyond the control of the U.K. You know what they’d do with it.

This is shameful.

This is the reason so many people think badly of the RC Church, especially the current incarnation.

I wish Pope Francis would at least speak out against what they're doing.

It's a horrible witness.

This family has been treated so poorly. The country and hospital let this child die; they should no longer have any say now about his funeral. This family needs our prayers.

The whole situation just turns my stomach.

On the one hand, you've got Fr. Gabriele, a good and conscientious priest who was faithful to God and to Tom, Kate, and Alfie.

On the other hand, you have a solid phalanx of U.K. Catholic bishops who not only abandon this suffering family and their doomed little boy, but also actively block and disrespect anyone who effectively comes to their aid.

Even though (!) Pope Francis not only arranged for them to get free medical care for Alfie at Gesu Bambino, but even pulled the strings to get them medical air transport from the Italian military, who had a medevac aircraft on standby to fly him to Rome at a moment's notice.

The one time the U.K. bishops oppose the Pope is when he's right!

First, the State murders Alfie. Now the church, not parents decide
who can attend the funeral?

The Brits are finished as a society.

It’s worse than that. They actively killed him.

Alfie’s parents need to relocate to the U.S.A. I have a suspicion that Alder Hey Hospital was involved in organ trafficking. They were involved in a scandal in the 1990s when organs (and fetuses) were removed without the consent of the parents. An investigation should be reopened to see what happened to Alfie’s body parts.

After pressure from the English bishops

It has been apparent for some time that there are no actual English bishops anymore, only left-wing political functionaries in robes. The last thing they care about is spiritual well being of their congregations, only their political belief system.

All those arrangements were made by that Italian Cardinal, as well as many more communications on behalf of Alfie. I cannot find his name on google, it’s 6 letters and starts with C. He was extremely involved yet almost never mentioned, I imagine not to detract from Francis.

I saw listed these names as outstanding Italian clergy who defended Alfie and did the practical footwork to try to get him transported to Gesu Bambino: Cardinal Pietro Parolin (Vatican Secretary of State), Mgr Angelo Becciu (Parolin's deputy), and Msgr Francesco Cavina.

They recruited Mariella Enoc, top administrator of the Gesu Bambino Hospital, who actually flew into Liverpool bringing several physicians who are specialists in anesthesia and resuscition.

Meanwhile, the UK hierarchy canned the Italian priest, Fr. Gabriele Brusco, who was there with Alfie and his parents in the hospital room for 10 days and gave Alfie the Sacraments. Sent him back to London, and then revoked his faculties (forbade him to function as a priest in the UK) and booted him back to Italy.

I can't think of strong enough words to tell you the shame and wrath I feel towards those ... gah...

Cavina (oops, a msgr) is the man who was doing all the groundwork and details.

If the British clergy would have given a small part of the efforts of the Italians, Alfie might be in the Gesu right now breathing easily by his trach. That is the standard (not new, not experimental) treatment in many countries for such conditions. The NHS is out of date. The ventilator gives an easy excuse to “remove life support” (kill the patient).

BTW, I think that in Italy the title "Monseignor," can be applied to a bishop, a cardinal, or any other officer of the Roman Curia. It's not an office (you can't "become a monseignor"), it's a form of address like "reverend".

Not used that way in English as far as I know, but common in Europe.
