A Kansas state senator faced criticism from Jewish rabbis this week for describing the aborting of 60 million unborn babies a Holocaust.
The Kansas City Star reports state Sen. Steve Fitzgerald, a pro-life Republican from Leavenworth, often brings up the Nazi Holocaust when discussing the abortion issue. He currently is running for a U.S. Congressional district in Kansas.
Recently, the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City complained about Fitzgerald using the comparison, claiming he is using the massive slaughter of Jewish people by the Nazis for political purposes, according to the report.
Senator, your words abuse the memory of the murdered victims of the Nazi regime by using their deaths as a political weapon in our national debate, the letter said.
We demand that you cease immediately making these offensive and divisive comparisons to the Holocaust for political purposes, and to find different language to discuss abortion, out of respect for the millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust, it continued.
Heres more from the report:
Fitzgerald said during an interview Thursday that he would take the rabbis letter into consideration and under advisement, and appreciated their sharing their opinion.
He would not commit to stop referencing Nazis and the Holocaust in the abortion debate.
I dont think anybody should accept arbitrary limits placed upon the exercise of their freedoms, he said.
Last year, Fitzgerald compared Planned Parenthood to a Nazi concentration camp after he was told that a donation to the organization had been made in his name.
Fitzgerald once again evoked Nazi Germany on the Senate floor last month when he brought up Josef Mengele, an infamous doctor at Auschwitz, during a debate over an amendment on aborted fetal tissue.

Abortion, like the Holocaust and slavery, is a human rights abuse that destroys a unique, innocent human being at their most vulnerable stage in the womb. Like other human rights abuses in the past, abortion discriminates against a specific group of human beings unborn babies and treats them as if they are not valuable. Since 1973, about 60 million unborn babies have been killed legally in abortions in the United States. Pro-life advocates fight every single day to remind people that unborn babies are human beings who deserve rights, too.
However, even some pro-lifers caution against comparing human rights abuses to each other. They argue that a comparison may appear to diminish the horror of one abuse or appear to disrespect those grieving from one abuse by bringing up the other.
What ever pro-lifers believe, the essence of the issue is that every human being is valuable and deserves the same rights, no matter what their age, location, skin color, ethnicity or ability.
Every baby killed in abortion is "Child K" Rabbi you better start caring this is a Holocaust and babies are sometimes burned in ovens after wards, as Dr. Tiller was one such doctor who did this!
Tough. It’s a good word for everyone and its original meaning simply means “destruction by fire.”
60 million vs. 6 million. It’s ten time worse than the holocaust. In fact, it’s worse than that because these are helpless little innocent babies.
Democrat supporters are upset. Tough.
The rabbis are right - it’s 10 times worse than the holocaust
Because Holocaust©
Jews do not own the word holocaust.
An oven or a womb.
The Holocaust goes on.
Methinks the good Rabbi is pro-choice.
I support the Right to Life above all else.
Abortion is murder and no term attesting to it being murder is too strong.
That noted, many times abortion protesters like those who run the Genocide Awareness Project spend a lot of valuable time drawing parallels to the actions of the Nazis more than 70 years ago, and should spend that time communicating directly about why abortion is murder now.
In fact, if I was Jewish I would find the term "Holocaust" at it relates to the Nazis not only offensive, but utterly repulsive.
In a historical Jewish context, a holocaust was a burnt sacrifice that was made as an offering to God. Nothing the Nazis did was anything close to this.
Holocaust is an absolutely fitting description for abortion. And the good Rabbi should be cautioned of the cultural appropriation from Greece.
The math tells me that American abortion is 10 times the “Holocaust” than that of Hitler’s killing of Jews.
I think the more particular word for the National Socialist genocide against the Jews is the "Shoah", a Hebrew word for "catastrophe".
STFU, and no, I won’t call you “rabbi” ... The word means “teacher” and you are in no position to be teaching anybody.
“Jewish Rabbis”
As opposed to all those other kinds of rabbis.
We demand that you cease immediately making these offensive and divisive comparisons to the Holocaust for political purposes, and to find different language to discuss abortion, out of respect for the millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust,
We demand that Jews cease immediately this effort to expropriate the term Holocaust, which after all is taken from the early French holocauste, and the earlier Greek holocaustum. I’m sure some proper term can be found in Hebrew.
I never liked the word holocaust for what is better described as a catastrophe. It really came into prominence with the tv film “Holocaust.” I had an Orthodox Jewish friend in the 80s who also disliked that word to describe what happened. This rabbi sounds like a pc lib. Language belongs to all of us.
And nearly 20 million people were slaughtered by the National Socialist regime ... and 5.5 million Gentiles were murdered in the death camps.
Meanwhile, the American Abortion regime has slaughtered more than 60 million people, and the bloodbath continues every day.
LOL! Right you are to pick that up.
Well, suppose for the sake of discussion we agreed not to use “Holocaust.” These modern followers of Margaret Sanger have succeeded beyond the wildest genocidal dreams of Sanger and the KKK in the killing of black babies.
That suggests a couple of alternative names for it. How about “Massive Black Sangercide”? Or, The “KKK Black Baby Incinerator”? I’m partial to something with “Sanger” in it, but either of these could work. To be more Equal Opportunity, how about “Operation Baby Murder-Sangercide”?
