01 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD,
00 Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.
When you wonder why a President does things that are clearly out of the norm for that individual, now you know why. I'm not saying that the evil things some Presidents have done are by God's will, but the good things the one's like Obama or Clinton have done that are moral, ethical, and logical. Now, its not because their heart has all of a sudden become pure or they had an Epiphany, but rather it's because God turned them from that which they wanted to do, to doing His will instead. I am sure that like us, they too wonder why they did those things that are not what they intended.
See, while we do have free will, God does reserve the right to remove our free will from time to time in order to have a good thing accomplished for other reasons from time to time. Case in point would be when Balaam was hired by Balak, the King of Moab, to curse the Israelites. Instead he blessed them, because God would not allow him to curse His people. (
Numbers 2224).
Another instance was when Joseph's brothers planned on killing him. God knew they would, long before they were even born. So God arranged for some Ishmaelite traders to come by that exact location so that Joseph was instead sold to them for twenty shekels of silver. The trader in turn sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.
See, God needed the get Jacob and his family down to Egypt so they would be isolated from intermarrying with the people of Canaan as Esau had. God knows all, and He knew that the Egyptians would not mix with Shepherds because they considered them to be unclean.
One day God's people would be freed from bondage by Moses, and while going through plains of Moab on the side of the Jordan across from Jericho Balack, the King of Moab, saw them. Now Balack was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were so many, and he was sick with dread because of the children of Israel. So he hired a prophet to curse them. Which brings this commentary back to Balaam blessing the Israelites instead of cursing them, because God would not let him curse them.
