Kiev, March 7, Interfax - The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has conducted searches at the premises of a non-governmental organization in Kiev and Poltava due to the possible dissemination of the content promoting violence, the press service of the Kiev prosecutor's office said.

"The content containing propaganda of the cult of violence, cruelty, racial, ethnic or religious intolerance or discrimination, which is confirmed by conclusions of expert researches, as well as other literature, an evaluation of which is to be appointed, were seized following searches. About 100 copies in total were seized," the press service said.

Searches were conducted as part of the criminal case on the counts of import, production or distribution of the content promoting the cult of violence and cruelty.

A pre-trial inquiry as part of the criminal case is continuing.

At the same time, Oleg Guzik, the spokesperson for the Islamic Cultural Center in Kiev, told the online media Ukrainskaya Pravda that law enforcement officers conducted simultaneous searches both at the center itself and the place of residence of its librarian at 6:00 a.m.

"Literature, which was banned by a court order several years ago, was seized," he said.

Those were books containing radical Islamic beliefs, Guzik said. "We knew that such literature is banned and were seizing it from our center. We don't know where it came from, perhaps, someone had planted it," the center's spokesperson said.

Law enforcers found banned literature not only at the center, but also under the refrigerator in the librarian's home and in the center's shop, he said.

"What's interesting is that banned literature, which was seized in the shop, is in the Arabic language. But no books in the Arabic language are being sold there, only ones in Ukrainian and Russian," he said.

Representatives of the center do not share the views expressed in banned books, Guzik said, adding that similar searches were conducted at the Islamic communities in Sumy and Zhitomyr several months ago.

I hope they looked for weapons stashes as well.

Now there’s something a little more concrete they could deal with.
