Cooking, cleaning mums will be banned in advertisements across the UK from next year, following a study which claimed traditional gender roles are “harmful and outdated”.
The decision to tighten regulation was announced by the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) this week, after a report published in summer identified gender stereotypes in adverts as a driver of inequality between men and women.
“Wherever they appear or are reinforced, gender stereotypes can lead to mental, physical and social harm which can limit the potential of groups and individuals,” the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) alleged in its study.
Depictions deemed problematic include “family members creating a mess while a woman has sole responsibility for cleaning it up”, and adverts which “[suggest that] a specific activity is inappropriate for boys because it is stereotypically associated with girls, or vice-versa.”

This is so old. Back in the 80s all the kids books showed men cooking and women fixing shelves. Why does each generation reinvent liberalism? It didn’t work. Still men do the big fixing and women do more

This is actually happening in a western country. This is shocking. It is the stuff of science fiction. But it is real.
My wife does the cooking in our house. Public safety issue.
Really? Where, Great Britain? I was in my 30s and married in the 1980s so I’m not aware of kids books from that time period. The picture at the top of this article is what I grew up seeing in the 1950s.
Imagine being the worthless, overpaid bureaucrat that sits around thinking of stuff such as this to ban/regulate to justify your position, salary and really existence.
Women’s liberation. That means women cannot just do what they want anymore. They must be man haters, childless, with no skills associated with woman stereotypes.
They should ban Men doing manly jobs!
And we need more women garbage collectors, roofers, and miners!
So they would like to see mom shoveling and dad baking a cake.

Although a little different in our household. He does the cleaning because he's more fastidious than I, and I do the cooking because I'm better at it and love to watch him eat my fabulous meals.
...and septic tank cleaners, asphalt road repairers, foundation restorers, etc.
