A deacon, if you have one, if you don’t, a priest, with a bishop being the last resort.

Have to keep those classes separated...The holy, spirit filled class of religious people and the rest who are required to blindly follow those 'in the know' thru the fog...

Without a priest you have NO connection with God...You guys are so boonswaggled that it doesn't matter if the priest is a queer or pedophile, or a con artist stealing your money, he is still an acceptable conduit to God; actually becomes Jesus for you...

You can't know Jesus because you guys admittedly do not have his spirit within you, you can only know the priest who claims to be Jesus from time to time...You can't communicate with Jesus outside of his mother or a supposed saint...

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Jesus says come unto him...Not a priest who claims to be him...Not a wafer the priest claims is Jesus...And not Jesus' mother...Go straight to Jesus...Tell him you trust him...Ask him to be your Savior...He will literally fill your soul with Himself, just as he promises...

“Except it seems in Roman Catholic churches and only be a “select few”.

Can’t have anyone thinking for themselves now, can we.

Yeshua said we are all equal.

The “ordained” are the nicolaitans that he denounced.

There are no rules in Scripture about who can and cannot read them in public.

Scripture is not being read "in public".

The Gospel (i.e. a reading from one of the first four books of the New Testament) is being proclaimed as part of the Sacred Mysteries; what we call "the Mass" or 'the Holy Sacrifice" and the Orthodox call "the Divine Liturgy". This is celebrated by a priest who is ordained to offer the Sacred Mysteries.

Catholics are as free as anyone to read the Gospel "in public".

I appreciate your explanation...it’s better than “just because”!

.
Those that actually read all of the Bible soon find that they cannot remain in the Catholic church.

100 years ago, My maternal Grandfather was excommunicated for buying a Bible.

He thanked God for it!

Everyone knows that Jesus didn’t want just anyone reading His words out loud in front of regular folk.

He said so.... Oh wait, He never said that.

This is one of those weird topics where invariably all liberals of any faith or none and some conservative non-Catholic Christians will agree. Some others include accepting priests marrying after they are priests and accepting civil divorce and remarriage. Try to find one Catholic lib that accepts abortion and gay marriage but also thinks a priest should always read the gospel during the liturgy.

NO DOUBT

Nothing like 8 years of training to walk with The Lord. It shows.

Sounds a lot like the goings on at a Masonic Lodge meeting...The worshipfull master (yes, that's what he's called) sits in the east and is the head of everyone...He reads out of the book and the other officers respond with scripted responses...Likely a similar 'Mystery' takes place in the Knights of Columbus...

The Masons predate Catholicism by millenniums...I suspect that is where Catholicism picked up a lot of its ritual procedures...

There are no sacred mysteries in the Gospels...Only in the unbiblical rituals performed by the fringe groups who like to mimic the church of Jesus Christ...

We know what Jesus taught...He left us and preserved what he wanted us to know, for all time, in the scriptures...He told us that...There were no secrets or mysteries left to religious looking organizations who try to steal the mantle of bible Christians which are succinctly lain out in the scriptures...

Different people do different things. Ever read Exodus or Leviticus or Numbers or Chronicles or Ezra or Nehemiah or Revelation? God has put an order into worship.

If you want it to be you and God with nothing else to order, Berkley’s your man, but he’s a bit after the death of the last apostle. Y”all are welcome to him, being a good Amglican “bishop”

Problem though is Romam Catholicism seems to be replicating the OT hierarchy.

One hundred years ago, Benedict X. Was Pope. As Cardinal he went around Rome giving out copies of Scriptures and encouraging people to read Scriptures. Did you know that for a very long time sthics have been able to get an indulgence for reading Scriptures for a half hour? Not exactly the same thing excommunication

Revelation is part of your Old Testament? Maybe I Corinthians 1:26-40 is part of your Old Testament as well. And for that matter, both the Old And New Testaments point to the same heavenly worship, so something that pushes too
Hard against the Old Testament smells of brimstone. Putting down something for resembling God’s revelation is a weird put down.

Heavenly worship is one thing. What Roman Catholicism is doing is an entirely different matter. Y’all might as well have the curtain put up in your church separating the priests from the people.

Given lay folk already read other readings in the Novus Ordo, this is just the next step down the liturgical slippery slope.

Different religions have different rules. You are not Catholic and don’t wish to be, which is fine.

What’s the slippery slope if lay people are ryou axing the text. I fail to see how this diminishes or lessens the reading of the text.
