EWTN Panel Discusses Nearly ‘Anarchic’ State of the Church

April 28, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – An April 20 EWTN panel discussed a host of hot-button issues within the Church, including the appointment of a pro-gay Jesuit priest as a Vatican consultant, how the possibility of women deacons is "certainly something to be concerned about," and Cardinal Robert Sarah's "prophetic warning about the nature of the Church’s present crisis of faith."

EWTN's Raymond Arroyo, Robert Royal of The Catholic Thing, and canon lawyer Father Gerald Murray (the "papal posse") also discussed the pope's interference in the Order of Malta, how reception of Holy Communion in the hand has caused "lack of faith in the Real Presence of Christ," and another Jesuit priest's suggestion that Jesus' words on divorce were not meant to be taken literally.

Arroyo began by asking Royal and Murray for their take on remarks Cardinal Christoph Schönborn made about the female deaconate.

Schönborn said, "I can understand the malaise which women feel when they see only men concelebrate [Mass]. I can understand that we must look like a men’s squad up at the altar."

Arroyo noted, "Then during the Pope’s Easter vigil homily, His Holiness had this to say about God setting the rules: ‘When the high priest and the religious leaders, in collusion with the Romans, believed that they could calculate everything, that the final word had been spoken and that it was up to them to apply it, God suddenly breaks in, upsets all the rules, and offers new possibilities. God once more comes to meet us, to create and to consolidate a new age, the age of mercy.’"

"This came after a reflection on the faithfulness of women in the Church," said Arroyo. "What are you hearing in Pope Francis’ words and in Cardinal Schönborn's suggestions? Is this perhaps paving the way for changes in.......

Lunatics! All of them.

Just last month, I saw my entire husband’s family, at a funeral Mass, trot up to the altar to receive the Communion in their hands. Not one of them had been to Confession prior (I know, I asked at the lunch following). Despite all their years in Catholic school, they didn’t even remember what the Real Presence meant. You can’t tell me that the growing disorder in the celebration of the Mass is not having an evil effect on the congregation.

And I speak as a really lousy Catholic!

Thanks for your post. It is a good reminder to returning Catholics to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they can receive the Eucharist worthily.

I don’t think people believe it’s necessary anymore. Some do, of course, but no one I see at suburban Masses that I’m forced to attend. I don’t recognize my religion in these Masses!

Not at all. The only thing on his list is Jose Bergoglio. The man is power mad and thinks 2000 years of Christianity have been nothing but preparation for his coming.

Catholics have suffered through a generation (at least) from piss-poor catechesis - I am NOT surprised.

Some of these people were in their mid-50s and should know better. Just don’t receive - why is that so difficult to understand?

The last two popes made some changes and yes there was some dissent. But those pontiffs at least explained most of their thoughts clearly and usually tried to include some biblical support or good reasons or both. Not saying they were perfect but only that when intelligent presentation explanation and - where available- some recognizable authority is included, then changes are more successful. The present pope ? Not so much. And not surprisingly, his proposals are not meeting with nearly as much acceptance Very discouraging, disappointing imho.

Mr. Magoo was a near-sighted, deaf and simple old man cartoon character.

Bergoglio MacGoo, however, is a devious evil pope. Unfortunately, he's a real human being.

Agreed, but really, after one learns to read, one really is responsible for what one does or does not know. Under educated Catholics are willfully ignorant.

three prophecies come to mind, two from Catholics and one from a Protestant minister, that say the church will break up and the liberals in Europe and the US will join with the liberal protestant churches to make a NWO church. The liberals who want to make the church into a social work NGO type institution are behind this.

Malachi Martin might have either been a saint or a fraud, but he was right when he pointed out that these liberal bishops etc. don’t care about God: They want to hijack the church’s institutions: schools, hospitals, etc.

and true believers in Christ will be persecuted.

Sigh.

the hope is that the faithful will unite in prayer and keep the faith, uniting with those who love Christ in other church.

Not one mention of Vatican II. This “EWTN panel” is barking up the wrong tree. Until they recognize the real problem here, they remain part of the problem.

“I can understand the malaise which women feel when they see only men concelebrate [Mass]. I can understand that we must look like a men’s squad up at the altar.”

No, it looks like worship. The mass and Eucharist is ADORATION of GOD.

Anyone who looks at the Sacrifice of the Mass and thinks, “I’m excluded because I’m female and that’s not fair!” is not thinking of exactly who is present on that altar.

Hint” It just isn’t about YOU.
