It seems this story is from 2014.
At any rate, I didn’t know a priest gig could bring in such big bucks.
Reminds me of the case of Paul Shanley, one of the pedophile priests who were "enabled" by Cardinal Bernard Law.
Shanley was a serial abusers of teenagers, possibly of both sexes. He was shuffled off to San Bernardino, where...
"He spent most of his time in Palm Springs with another Boston priest in exile, running a hedonistic inn catering to gay men. Every other weekend, he drove 50 miles to San Bernardino to say Mass at a Catholic church where parishioners were unaware of his other life."Shanley is (or was, as of November 2015) in a Massachusetts prison.
Here's a Boston Globe story on his case.
Shame on Church Militant for using the term “defrocked.” The word simply does not exist in a Catholic context. It is meaningless.
It is unclear whether Arsenault has been suspended or laicized.
Defrock and jail for embezzlement. He’s not a priest. He’s a fraud. Lock him up.
The Church in the US will never recover as long as it is perceived as a gay fraternity; Benedict XVI rightly banned them from seminaries, but he is no longer the boss.
Normally they don't. Usual priestly salaries are around $24,000/year.
Another product of Vatican II. “If it feels good, do it.”
No wonder embezzlement looks good...
(HA) Now that's funny... :)
Normally they don’t. Usual priestly salaries are around $24,000/year.
That’s the salary. Add to it room and board at the rectory. The actual amount would vary from diocese to diocese as would questions of expenses such as gas.
On Friday, the diocese announced that Pope Francis has stripped Arsenault of his clerical duties.
By virtue of this decree, Edward J. Arsenault has no faculties to act, function, or present himself as a priest, the diocese stated. The action also dispenses him from all obligations subsequent to sacred ordination, including that of celibacy.

The final sentence makes clear that he is laicized. Only a laicized priest is ever dispensed from the obligation of celibacy.
All the preceding stuff is consistent with either suspension or laicization.
“Defrocked” does not belong in any story about Catholics.
The article, itself, never mentioned “defrocked”. I don’t know who authored the title, however, where the word is used.
Faggotry is the bane of the Church.
Would appear the defrocking is for embezzling, not homosexuality?
At least as far back as when Chaucer wrote “The Canterbury Tales” 600+ years ago (the Pardoner)...
Why the silly quibble over the use of the term “defrocked”?
Let’s look at the reality. The St. Luke’s Institute has been and is now a disgrace to the Church and has been the hideout for priests who ought to be in prison.
