Some demons are named for what they do to the victim (their "specialty" if you will): fear, girl fixer (transsexualism), greed, silence, spite, and many other names and variations.
The demon, however, can only be expelled with the authority of Jesus Christ, and His name.
The rite of Exorcism in the Catholic church does do this, as do deliverance's in other Christian faiths.
Thanks SkyPilot. I am thinking we all have a name in Heaven. Catholics take a name or at Baptism receive a name of a saint in Heaven. The name is entered along with our own name in the Book.
The name is not forgotten, but referenced in our Funeral Rite.

The author of this article does not understand the answer to this question. The answer is complex and has multiple facets.
First, the greatest power of evil is to work and influence you while remaining unknown. They want you to think that their thoughts projected upon you are your own thoughts. Calling them out by name identifies them and brings them into your awareness.
Second, where there is on dark spirit there are usually many. They can be many spirits who do not even know there are other spirits in the same person. These spirits can also be embedded in other dark spirits, layered many levels deep. The highest number of embedded spirits in each other that I have encountered is nine levels. Four or five is very common.
Spirits become embedded in other spirits when they attached to a person and the person dies. And then that spirit along with its embedded spirit attaches to another person until they die. Now you have three levels.
When removing a spirit, if it is not done properly the embedded spirits can spill out and remain in the host.
Allow me to clarify a few terms I use.
Demonic spirit is one that never had a physical body. It is one that is in the upper echelons of the dark command structure.
Misguided Spirits falls into two categories. (These are spirits who have had a physical body at one time)
Misguided spirits whom have been recruited by satan and have made a deal with satan to purposely perform his work
Misguided spirits whom are just lost and have no idea why they are here or where they are at. Aborted baby’s spirits often fall into this category. They were never born and have no names. They just cling to the mother. I’ve found as many as five of these attached to one woman at the same time.
Dark Spirits are both demonic and misguided spirits as they exist within the realm of darkness and are afraid of the Light. They prefer to hide in darkness.
There is a hierarchy or command structure in the dark realms just as there is in the military. They usually shove a lower level dark spirit out first and hope that you think that the low level spirit you encounter is the only one in the person. You identify that spirit by its name. But then you also ask it its bosses name. I have had sessions where I worked my way up the command structure from the lowly misguided private through a dozen levels of command by capturing the boss and then moving up to the next boss, following a single thread to the top high level demonic spirit.
At each level I point out the lies they have been told, especially that the Light will kill them as I recruit them to being a Light worker prior to moving to the next level of command. When I reach a very high level and that spirit has been redeemed, I ask that commander to call out to all of its underlings they are commanding and bring them all to the Light. There is a special level for these spirits as they need much remediation. However, the work done while they are still in this realm is the reason for the parable of the vineyard workers all receiving the same pay. It’s never too late until the day is gone… the day being the age we are in.
One evening while doing the command structure redemption work, satan himself appeared to me. The room instantly became freezing cold and you could feel the supreme evil. I turned to Mi-Ki-El (Michael) and said, “There he is, You can get him.” To which Mi-Ki-El replied, “It’s not time yet.” That is when I realized that God is in total control and even satan serves a purpose in the Divine Plan. That evening I stopped doing spirit depossession type of work except when it occasionally is creating problems.
It’s hard to explain, but all of this work is done in prayer. It’s not me doing it. I don’t even think as it is happening. The words coming out of my mouth are not mine. I call out the spirits name so they know I am speaking to them and them alone.
The name defines to quantifiable unit of consciousness that is associated with that particular soul. It’s the reason that the name of God and the name of Jesus is so powerful. You are calling in that consciousness when you use the name. Do not use these names in vain or they may not respond when you call out and really need them.

Not true. I know the name of God, of Jesus, of Archangel Michael. Knowing the name merely identifies the consciousness of the spirit to whom you are communicating and calls it forward to you.
Just this week I noticed two people carrying dark spirits, which I often refer to as bogies. (Just as they appear on a radar screen, they appear as dark blips to me.)
The first person in whom I noticed a dark spirit would have his voice tighten up and start coughing every time he would try to speak a prayerful thought. It was very obvious.
The second person was a woman who usually radiates loving energy every time I encounter her. However this time she did not radiate and her personality changed. It is very noticeable especially when the conversation was about spiritual topics.
What did I do... I left them go as they were part of an experience God allowed for these people in order to get them to turn to Him for help at some time in the future.

And yet, Paul does tell us to test the spirits and discern whether or not they are good or evil. Ask them to say that “Jesus is Lord” and see what kind of response you get.
