Good post.
Also, many feminist nuns were “gatekeepers” who kept untold numbers of orthodox young men from entering seminaries for decades. Imagine that, a feminist nun in charge of priestly vocations. One could easily conclude that they wanted a priest shortage.
Okay. I didn’t realize that.
This is 1 of the very few things I agree with the pope on. As the Apostle Paul said, paraphrasing of course: better a man be married than to burn in the fires of temptation. Also a good chance that strong, solid, family men can take their place.
A non-catholic looking in.
Good idea. Too many good heterosexual men have left the priesthood and the seminaries. Guess who is left? If the priests marries a woman who also has a job it would not be a financial burden. I assume the children of married priests would not inherit church property like they did centuries ago.
Lol, yeah man. At least this time the pope maybe saying something that I agree with. 1 Timothy 3:2 "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife...." Keeping ones virginity is a blessing for God, but never a requirement to be a pastor/priest.
Why is it that the people who agitate for a married priesthood can never find a man whose sole reason he did not pursue a vocation was celibacy? Where are the throngs of men beating down the seminary doors? Where are the advocates to be found when the collection plate comes round for increased contributions for the support of a priest’s family?
Frankie da Pope is doing for the Catholic Church what Obonzo did to America. Look for Frankie to “evolve” on “gay marriage”.
It seems to me, from my experience, that a minister’s wife is a real helpmate to him, and that they can make a good team. Maybe I’ve been lucky knowing that kind, but I’ve known some good preachers, and each of them had a loving, godly, wife.
1 Corinthians 8-9 Jesus Said
“Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion”.
Some surely aren’t acting Jesus like.
WTF!!!!!
Seriously, if this is true... the catholic church is OVER.
Marriage doesn’t prevent pedophilia.
I respect those who choose a celibate life, but those who marry as per God’s plan can also be a blessing to their congregants.
the original reason for celiibet priests was the fact that a priest would appropriate church property and the when he died the family would keep the property so at some point the priesthood who was already practicing celibacy with a majority of the priest hood decided to make it a requirement......this what I read don’t know if it is true.
I think one of the "singles" here should be "married," no?
LOL. Right!
Being an unmarried man in order to be a priest should never have been a requirement.
I said years ago that becoming a priest was a PERFECT way for homosexuals who wanted to remain in the closet to:
1) hold a very respected position, even admirable.
2) answer no questions to friends and family as to why you have never married
3) gives you trusted authority over children
4) hands children to you on a silver platter if you are so inclined
It’s the perfect scenario for a pedophile, or homosexual. Bring in Godly, married men who truly love and want to serve and things will go more smoothly. Probably not 100%, but better.
I can imagine when Francis opens what he calls “the good book” and starts to read (obvious sarcasm with, dare I say it, apologies to Karl Marx):
“A spectre is haunting Europe the spectre of socialism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to promulgate this new utopia: Pope and EU President Juncker, Merkel and Hollande, and all the faceless bureaucrats who obey us. The divine right of kings, divine right, and Mankind’s mandate have ordained us as rulers of men, now and forever.”
(you can see where this is going.)
Him first.
Almost all protestant clergy are married and their wives are usually a great help in tasks big and small. It really is 2 for the price of 1 in most cases. BTW, I’m led to believe that the Catholic church allows priests to marry in Africa as no one would listen to a bachelor and in some cases they are polygamists.
