Biden Unlikely to be Punished Over Role at Same-Sex Marriage

Princeton's Robert George called for Mr Biden's excommunication soon after Mr Biden's wedding duty was reported.

But although the Church doesn't sanctify gay marriage and considers homosexual behaviour a sin, Mr Biden didn't actually break Church law, said Fr James Bretzke, a theologian at Boston College.

A Catholic can only be excommunicated on "canonical grounds," he said. "It's not like voting the person off the island."

A bishop would have to cite the specific Church law, known as canon, that the Catholic follower broke, "much like arresting someone," Fr Bretzke said.

"There is no provision in canon allowing for the excommunication of someone on the grounds that he officiated a civil ceremony, "same-sex or otherwise," he said.

"No canon excommunicates a Catholic for officiating at a 'same-sex wedding,'" Edward Peters explained on Wednesday in his blog dedicated to canon law.

But Pope Francis or Cardinal Wuerl "could issue legislation making such officiating an excommunicable crime," added Mr Peters, who teaches canon law at Detroit's Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

Mr Peters, whom Pope Benedict XVI appointed to the tribunal that administers Church justice, stated that Mr Biden would have to demonstrate a pattern of behaviour that violates Church law to trigger any formal disciplinary action.

There was no harm intended so it’s OK. Sound familiar.

Alternative idea: Call Notre Dame and ask them to give Joe yet another Super Catholic Award. Most of our bishops would support that proposal.

“No canon excommunicates a Catholic for officiating at a ‘same-sex wedding,’”

There’s no canon because nobody imagined that our culture would become so reprobate as to need such. Well, there needs to be such a canon now. Joe is spitting in the face of Jesus. Is that not grounds enough for excommunication?

Continually, knowingly, participating in communion outside a state of grace.

‘Seems excommunicable to me.

Wrong, biden has excommunication himself by knowing the Church teaching and Publicly going against it and not repenting and admitting his Error Publicly. He is NOT Catholic, In Union with the Body of Christ, the Church. Yes it is This Simple.

Pray for his Soul for he is in Grave Error and Mortal Sin, If he dies in this State it will Not be Good for his Souls Eternity!

Probably not. Biden will simply say, (WWJD) “There is some speculation and a possibility Jesus was gay and he would have wanted me to do this”.

I’m sure next time Frank is in town Biden will take communion straight from the Pope.

it is my opinion that Joseph Biden, Jr. is a castoff from the Roman Catholic church and as such has no intrinsic value spiritually. He has no shame.

This explains the condition of the Roman Catholic Church today.

When I read the title :

Biden Unlikely to be Punished Over Role at Same-Sex Marriage

My first thought was, “Oh, he definitely will be punished!” Maybe not in this world; but he WILL be punished if he fails to repent immediately...

ROFLMAO.

Back when the canons were written “same sex marriage” or “civil union” had never entered anyone’s mind.

Don’t conflate the concepts of mortal sin and excommunication. Imprecision is never helpful in the long run.

Wuerl will protect the “gay community” and Biden because they have photos of Wuerl in gay bars.

**
As those who wrote the canons never dreamed of the possible existence of such a perverted situation, I suspect.

Would not the approval/participation in a homosexual marriage ceremony be a “mortal” sin?

Hello Father Arthur, Is not bidens action prideful? Does his actions not adhere to Occult Ideas? Does his Actions and Words not contribute to, or sympathize with Gay Rights Groups? Has he Lied in that he promoted sins of the flesh/gay/lesbianism as not a sin (mortal at that)? is he in Accomplice to another‘s Grave Sin? Is he most likely considering all these past mention actions, Desecrate the Holy Eucharist (SACRILEGE)?

If you can honestly say he has not then you may have a point, however the facts are he has/is Publicly doing All these, thus he is in Moral sin and I will pray for his soul and those he infects.

And I haven’t even touch on the subject and sins of Abortion...

God Bless

One other thing Father Arthur, To your point of Conflate. The sins them selves do not Excommunicate him it is the sins combined with the fact he is Publicly doing so and calling Himself Catholic. He Cannot be and You along with All the Clergy have a Duty to Call Him, first in privet, then Publicly, to Repent, Recall and Correct his previous Public Errors on this because it is His actions and those of others like him in the public square that are causing defamation of the Church.

God Bless
