[Church of England] Synod Faces Conservative Boycott Over Gay Marriage Talks
Christian Today ^ | 8 July 2016 | Harry Farley

The Church of England's governing body may face a conservative rebellion over its discussions on gay marriage.

Despite pleas from senior bishops, a number of conservative Anglicans are considering boycotting the Church's private conversations over sexuality, designed to prevent a fracture over gay marriage. A deep fissure exists within the Church over whether or not to accomodate gay relationships in some way.

A memo sent round to some members of the Church's governing synod listed "reasons not to participate" in conversations, which aim to reconcile opposing factions. The note, seen by Christian Today, offers a damning assessment of the secret talks, known as "shared conversations".

A "dark cloud" also hung over the debate as questions were raised over how the £360,000 conversations were funded. A number of conservatives claimed the conversations were compromised because the liberal wing of the Anglican Church in the USA, which supports gay marriage, had allegedly paid for the talks in part.

The Church of England has undergone these private for conversations for the last two years at a local level. But from Sunday to Tuesday the Church's national governing body will enter talks behind closed in an effort to prevent a split.

A group of conservatives on synod will meet on Saturday morning to discuss whether or not they will boycott the talks. Susie Leafe, director of the evangelical bloc Reform, told Christian Today: "People aren't saying we can't talk about it. People are just saying we can't talk about it in a setup that is controlled." Reform had advised their supporters not to join in the Church's local versions of the talks and Leafe said it had not yet changed its guidance.

The numbers who will boycott the talks is not yet clear but a number of senior bishops today used their platform in......

The Church of England is morally bankrupt and has been since constituted by Henry VIII.

So true.

He made "marriage-divorce-remarry" into an Olympic sport.

Divorced.
Beheaded.
Died.
Divorced.
Beheaded.
Survived.

Well, his church is ALWAYS a way to go for Catholics who DID divorce and remarry. They are welcome in Henry's church. Of course, they are still Catholics...just Catholics who...oh never mind, you get my point.

HomerBohn doesn't appear "upset" at all. He's just stating the facts. In fact the little POEM about Henry VII's wives show that: Henry VII made "marriage-divorce-remarry" into an Olympic sport.
Divorced.
Beheaded.
Died.
Divorced.
Beheaded.
Survived.

I would IMAGINE that the families of those wives he killed would be "upset," not us Papists CATHOLICS.

Oh dear, you're upset about a few infertile wifey's?

How about wholesale slaughter of the Albigensians for "heresy" (translation: not paying tribute to the sex cult Bishops)?

Or being just a little too successful:St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre.

We could go on...like to the Inquisition...and other Catholic ("Papist") atrocities against Protestants.

The fact that Hank the Wife Chopper took advantage of a movement is really nothing. Those of us whose ancestors were the victims of the other events - and who started this country in opposition to them - Remember.

Given the popes since Vatican II, I no longer attend mass at a temple of the new religion.

I am a sedevacantist until the Church recovers itself from the descent into secular humanism.

I believe you will find he was seeking annulment, a devise used by thousands of Roman Catholics then and now.

I believe you will find he was seeking annulment, a devise used by thousands of Roman Catholics then and now.

"devise"?? Do you mean "device"??

An annulment takes place when one of the parties NEVER intended to "love, honor" etc.

1. Case #1
I knew a fellow high school student who got an annulment. I HAPPENED to be at a church function ... and introduced myself to an older woman next to me.
She gave me her name and I answered: "Oh I went to high school with a girl of the same name."
She answered: "That is my daughter."
I asked: "Well, how the heck is "Susie"?
She answered: "She's fine...now."
I looked at her with a question and left it hanging.

Her story: "Susie's" husband BEAT THE HOLY PIE OUTTA HER from day one of their marriage. They had five children throughout the marriage.
Her parents used to tell her: "GO TO THE PRIEST!" The husband assumed that since Susie was Catholic she was STUCK.

Susie FINALLY went to a priest and told her story.

Long story short: Susie got an annulment BECAUSE the husband never intended on "loving and cherishing" Susie. He had always planned on beating her because that was his way.
So...her mother said that NOW Susie is married to a WONderful guy and she is SO happy.
Not often I get to hear about a happy ending.

SO that was a case for an annulment. It was not a "device" on Susie's part but a chance for a new and better life.

Another scenario.
Case #2: My weight watcher's leader is divorced. She married an older guy and they had two sons. Even before the time the boys were teenagers, her husband started to cheat on her...WITH OTHER MEN. She didn't have a clue as to what "gay" was and HE KNEW that she was abysmally naive. That was the MAJOR reason he married her, to have the "veneer" of being straight.
Her SONS knew that "dad was gay" w-a-y before she knew. She DIDN'T get an annulment but she COULD have. It simply didn't matter to her anymore.

There ARE, of course, people who abuse that avenue of action, but annulments are NOT granted willy-nilly. Our lovely media loathe the Catholic Church, with those unbelievably high standards of morality always in front of us, and WILL take any/all opportunities to make the 2000-year-old Catholic Church look bad.
And, of course, there are always Catholic-haters who never miss the opportunity to take a jab to the first Christian Church. NOT YOU, mind you, but others.

Shrinks say that wife beaters USUALLY grew up seeing that in their own childhood. The same with pedophiles.

Freegards, "the father."

Device was a bad selection of words.

I have heard of several in my lifetime. One that comes to mind is Ted Kennedy.

NP.

Do you REALLY think that you were allowed to read ALL the facts about his case? I didn't like him either, but I know that the media hated him. Besides, it takes TWO for a marriage and it's my read that wife knew EXACTLY what she was getting into. The Kennedy men were known for their behavior LONG before peasants like me were privy to their indiscretions.

NO one could be that stupid and/or blind. If her family didn't tell her, then her friends MUST have. She DID play the part well.
