Covenant College has elected to forfeit the Womens Tennis USA South Conference championship match, scheduled for April 17, 2016. The championship match takes place on a Sunday, and as an institution owned and operated by the Presbyterian Church in America we observe the Sabbath by not competing in athletic events on Sunday. This conviction is clearly stated in our Student Handbook and is informed by the Bible, the Westminster Confession of Faith, and the PCA Book of Church Order.
In national tournaments, the NCAA makes accommodations for institutions that do not compete on a particular day for religious reasons. Bylaw 31.1.4.1 specifies that if an institution completes the Sport Sponsorship and Demographic Form they can be excused from competition on a particular day. The Covenant College Athletic Department has completed the necessary paperwork each year to apply for this exemption. While the NCAA has this policy, the USA South Athletic Conference is not bound to this. We have communicated with the other institutions in the USA South Athletic Conference, as well as the conference office, that we will not compete in athletic events on Sunday.
Somebody needs to tell these folks that the Sabbath is on Saturday, i.e. the seventh day. (Look at your calendars.) Sunday is the "L-rd's Day," not the Sabbbath.

ten bucks says that the NCAA would move the event if it were to land on a muslim holiday....
My calendar starts on Monday.
We’ll have to see.
The College World Series is during Ramadan.
Yes, if you are Jewish, but most Christians define their Sabbath as Sunday.
And it happened on the second chief sabbath, He went through the grain fields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands. And certain of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? And answering, Jesus said to them, Have you not read this, what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him; how he went into the house of God and took the showbread, and ate (and also gave to those who were with him) which it is not lawful to eat, except for the priests alone? And He said to them, The Son of Man is Lord also of the sabbath.
(Luk 6:1-5)
The US Constitution enshrines this concept in law by not requiring the President to work on Sundays.

You totally missed the point of the story. It was about student athletes who don’t raise sports to become an idol. In our Larger Catechism (for the PCA), the Sabbath is defined as one day in seven to be set aside (Q. 116) as the Sabbath, which is called the Lord’s Day.
What they did was admirable, not something to be nitpicked.
Thry’d be giving them prayers rugs on the courts if it was muslims b1tching about it.
Maybe yours does, but my little Windows Widget Calendar, and virtually every other calendar for a full month show Sunday all the way on the left, and Saturday all the way on the right. You know this too, and you must just enjoy being confrontational.

Actually, I agree with you. I think things were better when everything was closed on Sunday. But pretending that it is the Sabbath rather than the L-rd's Day is a bit absurd.

We’re not pretending. Even if it was absurd, it wouldn’t be as absurd as pretending that the Messiah did not come already.
Kudos to Covenant! The NCAA has started to schedule college football games on weekdays, and it won’t be long before they schedule games on Sunday. It’s high time someone is finally standing up to them.
Very unlikely. It's all about tv money and the NFL owns Sundays on tv.
went to arch rival Tennessee Temple in Chat 1970 semester. Emptied the basketball court when they pushed some stone lion across the court they stole the year before. They won the game.
Sure. Article I, Section 7, Paragraph 2.
If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.
