Louisiana Gov.'s Executive Order Allows State to Punish Christians Over Gay 'Weddings': Family Ldr

BATON ROUGE, April 14, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has signed an executive order that critics say will open the floodgates for discrimination lawsuits to be filed against businesses and will prevent people of faith from freely exercising their religion.

The order, which was signed yesterday, adds “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” alongside such immutable characteristics as race, sex, and national origin in the state's anti-discrimination policy. All firms that accept state contracts must adopt a similar policy.

“We are fortunate enough to live in a state that is rich with diversity,” said Gov. Edwards on Wednesday. “We do not discriminate based on our disagreements.”

Edwards, a Democrat, rescinded an executive order enacted by former Gov. Bobby Jindal last May, which prohibits the state from taking any “adverse action” against any person or business who acts on a belief “that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman.”

Gov. Jindal penned the "Marriage and Conscience" order just hours after state legislators, including many Republicans, defeated a similar bill introduced by State Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Bossier City.

Gov. Edwards ripped his predecessor's action, saying it did “nothing but divide our state” and “goes against everything we stand for – unity, acceptance, and opportunity for all.”

His own “executive order respects the religious beliefs of our people,” and “signals to the rest of the country that discrimination is not a Louisiana value,” Gov. Edwards said.

State family leaders said the order moved the state backwards and placed it out-of-step with other states, like Mississippi, where Gov. Phil Bryant just signed a law granting broad religious protections for business owners who do not wish to take part in a same-sex “wedding” ceremony.

Bourbon Street was the cess pool I visited on New Years several years ago. I was quite the ‘party girl’ and found it quite disturbing. Never had any desire to go back. Dark place. Like walking shoulder to shoulder into the ‘pit of hell’.....carrying a ‘hurricane’. It was truly a bizarre experiece.

Hopefully, Louisiana will learn a lesson from John Bel Edwards and make sure he is the very last Demonrat to hold significant office in Louisiana. Hopefully, the GOP will learn the lesson of NOT nominating GOP-E trash who cannot keep it in their knickers and cannot be counted on to side with ordinary folks in Louisiana.

Don’t count on that wishful thinking. LA voters also elected a slew of liberal Republican state legislators in 2015. These “GOP” legislators are backing Edwards’ legislation.

Noting that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect so-called LGBT “rights” as they have with 1st Amendment-protected religious expression, Christians need to learn Section 1 of the 14th Amendment (14A) or pay the price for not knowing it.
14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Regarding business owners using 14A to protect themselves from misguided, pro-LGBT state officials and other likewise low-information LGBT supporters, note that Acts 22:23-30 indicates that Paul claimed his rights as a Roman citizen to save himself from being flogged.

Pick an issue you know your worst enemies will never be able to give in on. It’s the stick they will never have to put down.

The state’s version of civil marriage had been a complete disaster. It will never stop changing, all it is can ever be is whatever pols, judges or 50% +1 of the voting majority thinks it is at any one time. That’s all it ever can be, at least in the modern era. Pope Leo XIII warned about this 130+ years ago.

Which probably won’t work at most modern trial court levels. It takes a trip to the appellate level at least, and the modern issues that have been raised have scarcely even gotten there.

In a later press release, it is reported that Governor Edwards is preparing a further executive Order declaring that, in order to complete the infantilization of the State of Luisiana, anyone uttering the phrase, or any part thereof, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me," will be subject to 20 years in jail, a $500,000 fine, or both.

No exemptions will be permitted based on age, sexual orientation, religion or mental state.

"This order is declared an emergency measure because that is who we are," said Edwards.

"'Bricks,' the opposite of 'snowflakes,' shall not be tolerated in my state," he concluded.

Those sentences illustrate an internal contradiction.
You might want to reword that.

If the perverts "could care less" (sic) about "marriage" why would they be so fixated, to the point of collective OCD, on hijacking the word?

Grammar aside, homosexuals don’t really care about marriage. With ten partners a night, who wants to be stuck with one boring guy?

Homosexuals push for gay marriage for egotistical reasons. They command the public to recognize and celebrate their perverse lifestyle — or else be punished. Bake my cake or be cast into the pit of hell!
