Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.(Psalm 2)
In Russia and much of Europe this 'Vain Imagination' , that there is no God and that man must define himself, his own morality, his own fate and remake his world, germinated into various degrees of Marxism, with the result of brutal oppression for millions.
The Marxist experiments to make paradise on earth were all manifestly miserable failures, but that doesn’t stop the elites from still believing. After the failure of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Red China to create atheistic Utopias, still our rulers and leaders believe in “the vain Imagination”.
And always along with the implementation of the 'vain thing' comes a corresponding war on the former ideal which captured the imagination of a good part of the western world for centuries, the Judeo Christian vision for a just and civil society.
In service of the 'vain Imagination' all trappings of the religion of the LORD and His Christ ” have to be removed. Thus the removal of the ten commandments from public courthouses, and school walls, the vigorous revision of history to eradicate all that is God honoring from our heritage, the open hostility to any public acknowledgment of God.
One vain Imagination has led to another in our topsy-turvy world. If there is no god, why should marriage be sacred? Why should a human life be any more sacred than an animal's? Why go through the inconvenience of having children?
As a consequence of the 'vain Imagination' has come the disastrous 'sexual revolution' the feminist revolt against the God ordained roles of male and female, the abortion genocide, 'homosexual marriage' , and a host of other ills which are ravaging the west at this time. These Utopias always end up resembling hell.
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us…
In the end the 'tolerant' always viciously attack the religion of the LORD and of His Christ. The bands they seek to break refer to the bondage the LORD supposedly puts them and their constituency under.
The word religion comes from the latin word religion, which is ‘binding’, your religion is your bondage. I admit that I am a willing bondsman of Jesus Christ.
The Kings of the earth want to 'cast aside' the bondage that the Christian religion has brought us into. And the people adopt this attitude, ‘Away with patriarchal marriage! Away with the homophobes! Narrow minded bigots! Away with the Ten commandments, get them out of here’!
One place where the Kings of the Earth meet to do this is the U.N..The time we live in now is uniquely applicable to many prophecies because never before has there been a forum for the “Kings of the earth” to meet together and take counsel, until 1948 when the U.N. was founded.
The U.N. consistently supports the “Vain Imagination” that we can build a world that is godless, and Christless, and improve on the old world that was once dominated by a Judeo Christian consensus.The brave new world is doomed to fail, but not for lack of human effort.
The premier aspect of the “Vain Imagination”which is wreaking such havoc in Europe and the United States is multi-culturalism, the erroneous and dangerous belief that all cultures are equally valid, and interchangeable.
This is an Anti-Christian imagination, because it is manifest to any sane person, that the Judeo Christian civilization is so far superior than any other, ever, that the only way to even compare it to, say Islamic civilization, or Hindu, or Atheistic civilization,is to diminish it and possibly annihilate it.
Europe is currently living the nightmare of the vain Imagination. Obviously the leaders and theoreticians are far removed from the nightmare they have created in Europe by pretending that 1,000,000 Sunni Muslims transplanted from a war zone are valid substitutes for the millions of German and Swedish babies that should have been born, raised and socialized in the West,had they not been aborted.
Merkel never goes anywhere without an armed escort, and she has no children to worry about being raped or murdered in the streets now teeming with savage young Muslim men.Many of Europe’s leaders are childless, this is a large part of the problem.
These elites, ruling against the desires of their own people, imagine that people are interchangeable, mere economic units,therefore these Sons of the Koran , steeped in Islamic superiority, especially of the Islamic male over the Kafir female, can just be dropped into a civilized society such as Sweden, or Germany and function just as well as any Swede.
The Word of God warned us that there would be a 'super elite' ruling class, 'The Kings of the Earth and their Rulers' who would ruin the world, through their dogged resistance to the LORD, ‘His Christ’ and their acceptance of a very vain Imagination. I believe we have presently arrived at that time.

Hey...this is my little way of getting through the Bible several times a year. Your mileage may vary, but it is a sweeping overview that works for me, and has made certain Books, like the Gospels, the Torah, Acts, and Revelation get rear 2-12 times a years. It is a great way of “Hiding God’s Word in your heart (Psalm 119).
Here we go:
1. Get 8 little bookmarks. The more colorful and cheerful, the better. (Mine were a gift from a student, and they have puppy and kitten holograms on them! LOL)
2. Place the Bookmarks in Your favorite translation of the Bible like This:
Old Testament:
1. The Torah (Genesis - Deuteronomy)
2. History (Joshua - Esther)
3. Poetry (Job - Song of Solomon)
4. The Prophets (Isaiah - Malachi)
New Testament:
1. The Gospels (Matthew-John)
2. The Book of Acts
3. The Letters (Romans-Jude
4. The Book of Revelation
Every morning, while you are having your coffee, read ONE Chapter from each of the Bookmarks, and then move the bookmark forward to the next chapter, and then go to the next bookmark, read ONE chapter, and then go the next. DO NOT be legalistic about it, because that will make it a chore. Instead, let the Word minister to you and have the whole counsel of God at your fingertips.
Because of the number of chapters involved in each bookmark, it works out like this:
The Torah...2X a year
History...(the toughest section, IMNSHO) 1X a year
Poetry...2X a year
The Prophets...1X a year
The Gospels...2+ times a year
The Book of Acts 12(!) times a year
The Letters...2X a year
Revelation...12X a year
The complete overview is important so you won’t get bogged down in the “begats” or the wicked kings that keep messing up, which can be depressing! By following the Prophets with the Gospels, you see how the prophecies are fulfilled, and the messages in the Letters are uplifting after reading about the sufferings of Paul in the Book of Acts.
This is not actual Bible STUDY, but Bible Reading. Bible STUDY is, of course, the in depth exegesis of chapters, Passages, sentences, words, and even LETTERS in the Bible. It has, as you said, a “calming” effect, and starts the day off right every time!

Oh...I forgot to mention:
Psalm 119 is the LONGEST chapter in the Bible but it is broken up into sections based upon the Hebrew Alphabet. One section a day is sufficient for that Chapter.
That’s one of my favorite Psalms ever. It really is a beautiful portrait of a man completely focused on God and having a true relationship with him. A work of art for believers to relish.

And it’s even Better in the Hebrew.
In each stanza, every line begins with the same letter that is the title of the stanza (In “Aleph” every line begins with “A” and so on. None of the English translations could accomplish this amazing feat without being awkward and choppy.
But the Hebrew just flows along...It really is, as you say, a work of art.
