“Possibly.”

We have to be careful about the “knowledge that puffs up.” A revelation from the Lord will also elicit humility. Could it be this easy? I don’t know, however we would also be right to ask, by the same science, how a star light years away could locate Magi without modern technology to the Nativity to the accuracy needed. Explanations that posit a localized supernatural phenomenon instead of (or in addition to) a star as we know it, seem to make more sense. But just IMHO.

Thanks for posting this! I’ve seen it before but couldn’t remember what the name of the video was. It’s very well done, and I’d recommend it to all!
Excellent!!!

It seems to me that we humans USED to be far more attuned to the stars. Now, I think we take them for granted.

Perhaps the Magi (We don't even know that there were THREE. THREE is numbered because of the THREE gifts to Jesus.) and their astrologers knew better than we do about following stars and such.
But just IMHO.

Here’s a description of the video:

“Scholars debate whether the Star of Bethlehem is a legend created by the early church or a miracle that marked the advent of Christ. Is it possible that the star was a real, astronomical event? From Producer Stephen McEveety (The Passion of the Christ) comes an amazing documentary on the Star of Bethlehem. This presentation as seen by tens of thousands in the U.S. and in Europe explores the exciting truth of scripture and reveals the evidence for God’s existence as seen in the stars above. Presenter Rick Larson walks you through Biblical and historical clues revealing the incredible significance of this celestial event as well as the vastness of God’s creativity. Discover the secret of the Star - a secret of magnificent beauty.”

There could be other explanations too like their referring to maps and determining the city closest to where the star seemed to indicate. Then as documented, they went to that city and asked. The appearance of the star directly overhead afterwards, would be a bonus.

I never said just three Magi, only Magi. That would need a minimum of two Magi, or Maguses. It could have been quite a caravan with support staff too.

Stars do mean less to people quite accustomed to excellent indoor lighting. When your room is lit as well by night as it is by day, the occasion to go outside at night and observe seems less attractive. And also light pollution hides stars that used to be visible.

Statements like “The” truth, which aren’t referring to things like applied theology which already has broad consensus, get my guard up. People that invite us to be Berean about it seem the most credible. “Go look this up in the scriptures yourself and if you have a better idea, by all means please share it with us.”

I know that you never said "three." That was my addendum.
Sorry for what appeared to be an insinuation. It was unintended.

I deliberately avoided replying to your original post of: “We have to be careful about the “knowledge that puffs up.”” But now that you’ve posted to me, have you even watched this video?

I understand the popular meme, some of them giving the Magi names and citing the speculative “We Three Kings” song. The kings reference comes from a psalm and gets associated with the Magi by a speculation, whose plausibility is suggested by the sheer value of the gifts. The truth might be some blend of these facts, such as the Magi going to present gifts on behalf of kings who needed to stay behind and reign. But “We Three Ambassadors” doesn’t work in the song, so nobody has altered it according to such theories.

When someone says “THE” secret of the star... I get cautious, real cautious. I’d like to see it in text and give it the Berean treatment, so to speak, before opening my mind to drama that, I have found, quite easily can mislead me.

That’s why I speak tentatively.

Simple math from the Bible shows Jesus to be born during Feast of Tabernacles late Sept. Starts with the conception of Jesus’ cousin John the Baptist the year before. Isn’t it cool how the Bible has all the correct info?!!!

Who is Mark Larson? Is he affiliated with a particular Church or denomination? He mentions his website, do you know the web address? This is very interesting but I would like to read about it also. Thank you for the information. Merry Christmas!

The distance of an object (star, planet) from the earth is absolutely irrelevant. What matters is the location in the sky. You haven’t watched the video.

The appearance of the star directly overhead...

You haven't watched the video. The star was not directly overhead.

You haven't even watched the video. The whole point of the video is that the star was not miraculous. If it was miraculous, it would be meaningless and unverifiable..

The gospel tells us that the rabbis in Jerusalem told them the king would be born in Bethlehem. Why speculate when the gospel tells us how the Magi found Bethlehem?

Do you think the song came out RIGHT AFTER the Magi presented their gifts? THAT would explain it. :o)
