I once belonged to a Methodist Church. Wonderful preacher; a very godly man. But he was old and he eventually retired.
His replacement was different. For one thing, she refused to visit the sick — she said she found them depressing. For another, she seemed to have a remarkably close relationship with her roommate Betty. Her sermons never mentioned Jesus. Just: never. And she was obsessed with the souls of animals ad how how she didn’t want to go to heaven if her dog wasn’t going to be there.
In short: she was a pagan. So I left.

I live in Raleigh NC, where free birth control has been readily available through free clinics sponsored by the county’s health department since the early 1970s.
