The Cab Ride I will Never Forget:

NYC 2002. Wife and I took a cab from dinner to hotel. Cab driver was mid eastern in appearance. He was driving rather fast, in light traffic.

He asked: "Are you prepared to die?"

"Oh SH##" was my first thought.

Before either of us could answer he continued:

"I am prepared to die. I have Jesus in my heart, so I am not afraid. If you don't have Jesus...."

Here we thought he was going to kill us, and he was actually well meaning. He got no style points.

I found myself on “Taxi Cab confessions” on HBO when I took a random cab drive in Las Vegas back in the 90s. The driver never approached me about filming, lol, guess I was a bore. I only knew this after when I seen a clip of the show & remembered the female cab driver.

Had a similar cab ride once. The driver was Pakastani. He told me he just escaped from that hellhole and was a proud Christian grateful to be in America just earning a living for his family.

What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? What if I had been in a foul mood and had refused to engage the woman in conversation?

G-d would not allow that. Clearly, Ken had been chosen and directed to that address for reasons only He knows.

Everyday, people are given such opportunities to comfort the frail and the desperate. It is incumbent upon us to do His will and help.

Indeed. My "firewall" tried to hold tears back. A sad end nursing homes are for many. Yet the more grievous tears ought to be for lost souls.

A pastor of mine years ago told the story of a lady they would visit in a dingy nursing home, and she was way back in the recesses of it. Those around here reflected the atmosphere, but this born again lady had joy every time they met her and lite up the room, glory to God.
