Paul

22. Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23. With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

Greetings.

24. We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25. So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26. men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27. herefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28. It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29. You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

Farewell.

30. So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31. The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32. Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33. After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34]35. But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord..

Here we see Paul's skills as a negotiator and his ministry of reconciliation to the gentile Believers. The letter to the Gentiles caused great joy, even though it still had "restrictions". When we look at Paul's letters later on in this study, we will read about his deeper opinion on this subject.

HEN pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
