Quite the contrary. After Vatican II, the numbers of normal men who were drawn into the Church out of idealism dropped off radically. They got married. They were replaced by a flood of gay men who earlier could not have passed muster.
Well, after Vatican II, they certainly found themselves welcomed into seminaries where once they would have been quickly weeded out and sent home.

I vaguely remember a conservative Christian/Catholic woman, maybe Anita Bryant, who researched an American bishop, who was a homosexual and was not religious while young, but got the idea to join the priesthood with the intent of infecting it. ( His family who taken by surprise by his new religious ambition.) He was always seen in the company of handsome seminarians. He was a leftist and had had successfully changed the church from within.
Queer priests in the Catholic religion didn't start in 1960...It's been going on for centuries...Perhaps right from the beginning...
