Patterns of Evidence: Exodus
Thinking Man Films ^ | Released August 4, 2015 | Timothy P. Mahoney

Posted on 09/18/2015 10:55:56 PM PDT by amorphous

What is the validity of history found in the Bible? Is it fact or fiction? What does the hard evidence really have to say about the foundational story of the Old Testament: the Exodus out of Egypt? An in-depth investigation by documentary filmmaker Timothy Mahoney searches for answers to these questions amid startling new finds that may change traditional views of history and the Bible.

Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney begins with the question, “Is the Bible just a myth, or did the archaeologists get it wrong?” He decides to tackle this issue with a deliberate scientific approach. After examining the details in the biblical text, he journeys across the globe to search for patterns of evidence firsthand. The result is the most in-depth archaeological investigation into the Exodus from Egypt ever captured on film.

A well done documentary I highly recommend to both Bible believers and skeptics. Netflix has it.

I watched this last night

The information is good but but I wonder why the guy had to go everywhere to say what is almost common knowledge. The idea that the Exodus occurred earlier than the date given by secular archaeologist is pretty well known. Most of what was said is stuff I learned in Bible College in 1978

You are the exception. The rule is that while many know the story, scholars over the last few decades have claimed it's a fairy tale. This awesome documentary is one man's multi-year effort to uncover the truth and perhaps reveal where scholars made mistakes the average person is unaware of.

I’m just saying he didn’t have to search any farther than a public library and shouldn’t have taken more than about two weeks of reading. I think the questioning was artistic license to make the topic more interesting. I just think that the subject could have been presented in a more, for lack of a better term, honest way.

I could be wrong about the guy and if so I am sorry

It is still an excellent documentary.

I just watched this yesterday! Excellent. I particularly liked the rabbi with the hat and beard (forgot his name).

Watched this just two nights ago. It’s long and can be a bit plodding, but it eventually makes a very convincing case for adjusting the time of Exodus back into the late Middle Kingdom and that the destruction caused by the Ten Plagues actually precipitated the collapse of that dynasty. I was a little disappointed that it never touched on the evidence that the actual Mount Sinai is located in northwest Saudi Arabia at Jebelawz. But then the film might have been four hours long instead of just two.

Saw this in the theater (IMAX, very nice); the first half or so made me a bit impatient but is likely to build interest for those unfamiliar with chronology revision. David Rohl is featured, and his revision is the one being examined here. Rohl and Peter James tried to develop the Glasgow Chronology as a oh-why-not alternative to Velikovsky's Theses for the Reconstruction of Ancient History (the basis for his Ages In Chaos series; the GC failed (because it wasn't Velikovsky's chronology, which is basically correct, and possibly Rohl and James just didn't get along, both of them come off as impossibly arrogant). Where Rohl agrees with Velikovsky, he is correct, otherwise, no.
this is the weekly Digest ping topic.

The full film appears to be available for viewing online for $4, but this is a behind the story making of kind of thing.
Filmmaker Tim Mahoney experienced what he calls "a crisis of faith" and decided to find out for himself. The result is Patterns of Evidence: Exodus, which hits stores in DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday along with a companion book. Tim tells us why he undertook this project, what he learned about the history of Egypt and the ancient Near East, and what he hopes viewers will take away from this film.

I normally do a title search. Went back a few months past the release date, didn't see nuthin and thought it had never been posted.

I see you started a thread way back in January. A good one too with many good comments on the subject - especially yours!

Monday, January 19th: Patterns Of Evidence: The Exodus (one day only)

Btw, thank you for all of your hard work in posting the many numerous, informative articles here on FR!

Actually I wish it was at least four hours long. I hated to see it end. It was all that to me. :-)
