Do you not think someone higher up ordered him to apologize, prior to the upcoming Synod??

I'd say that's one possible explanation. Words like "abomination" were hard to find in last October's mid term relatio.

Other possibilities are that he was spooked by the threat of criminal charges being brought and simply blinked, and/or that there were threats to cut off donations to the collection basket.

I would say the Swiss bishop should start reading the 100 or so questions from God that he puts to Job starting in Job 38....The objective? To demonstrate that we are just puny mankind and he is God and he sets the rules for His universe.....

1. Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.......

Unless something has changed, haven’t the U.S. Bishops edited the end of Romans 1 where homosexual acts are covered out of the three year cycle of Mass readings during which the entire Bible is covered (read aloud)?

Sadly, it reminds us how so few bishops gave witness against National Socialism. Dietrich Hildebrand has told us the sad story of how the German hierarchy, with a few great exceptions, yielded more and more to that evil ideology as the persecution increased.

And the illegal alien in the WH called this “an obscure passage on Romans”.

I’m sorry that you claim to be a bishop of the Holy Catholic Church.

I sure am glad that I realized that the church had left me about 20 years ago; about the same time that parishioners worldwide were paying millions$ for the sins of the church leadership in hiding or moving around homosexual priests.

The pro-sodomy perverts discovered that suing the guilty priests was pointless.

This new development, officially to start embracing a "PC" posture and "evolving," seems to be a self-serving development which just makes a pathetic condition worse.

Freedom was never meant to be licentiousness. Their passions forged their fetters, and fetters for the rest of us, unfortunately.

It is suppose to be ORDERED liberty. In the same way you cannot have cars just aimlessly driving on the roads absent any rules, you cannot have an orderly society with all these contradictory ideas like the primacy of the family unit as the building block of society AND family can mean anything or nothing because it is all about sexual preferences, children can be glued to any two people and it is the responsibility of the government to see that it all comes out successful. You cannot define family, sexuality, or even male and female. You cannot restrict mothers and fathers to biology; birth certificates must be whatever two people desire them to be rather than a truthful statement of a human birth.

These are contrary systems of thinking that are incompatible. It is like saying you can drive on the left and the right side of the road; stop at red or go,; go at green or stop; right of way and left of way; no speed limits; no stop or yield signs.......everyone does what is right in their own eyes.

One side must trump the other. Judeo/Christian values used to take precedent. Now homo dictatorship takes precedent. children belong to the state under the guise of accommodating sexually perverted and crazed adults.

We always had this fight going on from Sodom in the Bible to other times when dictatorships and or authoritarian rules imposed their religion or lack of it on others.

I find it detestable that some would use their hatred of religious belief to suppress it like those in favor of gay marriage and liberal sexuality are doing.

Silence is not an option in these times in which we find ourselves.

There’s a way to express the Catholic Church’s teaching on the Sixth Commandment without even mentioning any “groups,” or “oppressed minorities,” etc.

“Except in the case of mutual acts between husband and wife that are in themselves apt for and open to the transmission of life, all deliberate seeking of venereal pleasure is grave matter.”

Just let some rabble in the street try to come up with chants and signs responding to that statement.

Calling the acts an abomination is one thing, but calling for those who commit them is out of line except in Islamic countries.

He's older and probably didn't want to spend time in prison, so he buckled. If only he could see his future, though..... he might be burning with desire to go back to his original exclamation..

We can pray for the man (and for America too); how 'bout today? Feast of the Assumption [8-15-15] is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year, as it falls on a Saturday, but that doesn't mean we can't go. Check on a Mass in your area.

Question - I know the Bible calls homosexuality all sorts of bad names, but does it ever actually say it is a sin? The wages of any sin is death if we haven't accepted our salvation through Christ, but does something termed as an abomination/vile/disgusting automatically qualify as sin?

Adultery is a sin, but I haven't seen sex of unmarried men/women being termed as a sin either - it is discussed as an affront to your body and as "undesirable, but not as a sin.

I'm not trying to stir any pots, I'm asking if we are on the wrong track with our definitions - any Biblical words (in context) to support one side or the other would be appreciated. I understand that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, but they also contained many who "indulged" who were committing adultery on top of the unnatural acts - the mere destruction of them does not answer the sin question. After all - God also "choked" a bunch of folks in the desert for whining about Manna and wanting real meat...

Gen 18:20 And the Lord said: The cry of Sodom and Gomorrha is multiplied, and their sin is become exceedingly grievous.

Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, because it is an abomination.

Lev 20:13 If any one lie with a man as with a woman, both have committed an abomination, let them be put to death: their blood be upon them.

but does something termed as an abomination/vile/disgusting automatically qualify as sin?

I would think that an abomination is an especially hateful form of sin.

Just because of such feeble attempts at parsing, there are the Seven Laws of the Children of Noah, the violation of any of which merits the death penalty (whether carried out or not) without regard to playing word games with ‘sin’. Male homosexual acts are prohibited on pain of death.

I didn’t realize anti-homosexuality is one of the Noahide laws. Boy, they really put the burn on homosexuality.
