Gay substitute teacher denied full-time job at Iowa Catholic school after being outed as engaged

An Iowa Catholic school denied a substitute teacher a full-time job after learning on his Facebook page he was engaged to a man.

Tyler McCubbin already volunteered at Dowling Catholic School as a track coach and filled in for absent teachers. His sexual orientation only became an issue when his social media accounts became the focus of a background check after allegedly being promised a position as a social sciences teacher.

His profile on Facebook shows a scattering of likes for LGBT groups and pro-gay artists such as Audra McDonald, but it’s his fiancé that got their attention.

“I said, ‘Yes, it’s true. I’ve been engaged for almost a year now.’ And they said, ‘Because of that we can’t offer you the contract,’” McCubbin said.

Des Moines Diocese leaders defended the “hiring situation” that surfaced when McCubbin went public with the school’s rejection that was apparently based not on his sexual orientation, but the openness of his sexuality that violated the church’s doctrine, KCCI-TV reported.

The school’s decision to not give McCubbin a job is also protected by the state’s civil rights laws that give religious institutions the right to discriminate against sexual orientation, according to the Des Moines Register.

“A formal written contract wasn’t extended owing to a personal situation that was at odds with Church teachings,” a statement released by the Diocese of Des Moines said. “It came to the school’s attention through the social media scan that the applicant is in a same-sex relationship and is engaged.”

Though the statement does not name McCubbin, it has left him feeling “heartbroken” and “ashamed.”

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” McCubbin said.

People with these kinds of neuroses, fetishes, and obsessions should not be allowed anywhere NEAR children, not just in parochial schools, either.

Anybody who has a modicum of understanding what their practices entail should be utterly disgusted by it and not want their kids exposed to it in any way at all.

Although Dowling is getting support (including financial) over this, I believe they will cave in and apologize soon.

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” McCubbin said.

Your actions are incompatible with your ex-employer's mission. If my NRA membership disqualified me for a job with Ban Guns Now, I wouldn't blubber about it.

If this were a Muslim school, CAIR would be there to defend it. Heck, there would be huge support from the Muslim community.

As for this Catholic school.... I’d like to see how the Catholic church responds if a lawsuit were brought...

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” McCubbin said.

Why, yes, you have.

And you continue to do so.

Facebook is the downfall of yet another individual.

Think twice before speakking, three times before texting or tweeting, and four times before posting. Words to live by.

Doubtful. This isn't the first story of this kind to come across the wires in the past few years. There have a bunch of stories about religious schools firing gay teachers or unmarried pregnant teachers and to the best of my knowledge none of the firings has been reversed.

it has left him feeling “heartbroken” and “ashamed.”

Not ashamed that he is a sodomite but that someone does not approve of him being one.

Another attempt by the gay mafia to attack religion. The teacher knows how the Catholic faith regards homosexuality...so there is no other reason to create this faux outrage other than to attack the religious school.

Good. He should feel ashamed; sodomy is shameful. His prideful heart needs to be broken, otherwise he won't repent.

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” McCubbin said.

The delusion is strong with this one.

Depends on if the school is a stand alone corporation, associated with a parish corporation, or if it is part of the diocese corporation.

At each level, the response will be “What is the best sounding with the least amount of financial risk”.

I don't know about heartbroken but being ashamed for taking it in the butt for sexual pleasure, is something to be ashamed about.

There is a reason these ab-normals are called queers {even by themselves}, and it's because they are.

The question is, “Why would a homosexual or a lesbian apply for a teaching or coaching, or even a clerical position at a Catholic school. They have to know the teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexuality.

This guy is either stupid or looking to create trouble for the school.
