John Travolta breaks silence on ‘Going Clear’: 'Stop picking on Scientology!'

In the wake of the explosive HBO documentary “Going Clear,” John Travolta has come to Scientology’s defense.

The 61-year-old made it clear he has no plans to see the doc, which alleges the church has physically abused and blackmailed some of its members, among other questionable acts.

“No I haven’t and I don’t really care to,” Travolta told the Tampa Bay Times when asked if he’ll see the film.

He’s been a member of the church for more than 40 years and claims his experiences have been nothing but amazing.

“I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has (claimed), so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me?” he added. “It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom [Cruise], I imagine.”

Cruise, 52, is also a well-known celebrity Scientologist, like Kirstie Alley, and both have voiced their support of the church.

Travolta says the church has aided him during many terrible moments in his life — including the sudden death of his son Jett in 2009. “Oh, my God, I wouldn’t have made it,” he said.

Cruise, thinking Stan is genuinely Hubbard’s reincarnation, asks him whether he enjoyed his acting. When Stan tells Cruise that his acting is not as good as others’ (like the Napoleon Dynamite guy), Tom locks himself in Stan’s bedroom closet, believing he is “a failure in the eyes of the prophet”. He refuses to come out, despite the attempts of Randy, Nicole Kidman, Travolta, and R. Kelly to persuade him to “come out of the closet”; Travolta and Kelly eventually go into the closet as well.

I’m starting to get the adult John Travolta mixed up with the ‘ageless’ Wayne Newton. Both are over-coiffed with Widow’s Peak hairlines, both appear well preserved. On the other side of the coin, both seem to be ambitious professionals who want to be liked, a common trait with most stage entertainers, who retain a certain amount of insecurity no matter how successful they have become.
Wayne is similar to Max Baer, another very successful star of yesteryear who has parlayed that fame into the business world.

I think Scientology is a laughable fabrication. But I also don’t see any of the prominent adherents proselytizing about it. I don’t see why we can’t leave them alone to worship whatever moonbeam myth they choose. Their sins are between them and their Maker, just as ours are.

The problem with the Scientologists is that they pursue people into the real world. A good example was Katie Holmes who was stalked by the Scientology creeps.

Scientology is a clear example of the gullibility of some Americans, which also plays out at the voting booth and in many other ways.

Most of the time Scientology gets a pass from ridicule (Zappa may have been the first to ridicule it) because the members don’t tolerate criticism. This is why so many are afraid to criticise Islam; although they will kill you for doing so. But also why Christians and Jews are fair game; we don’t stand up for ourselves.
