Pope Francis: ‘Money Is the Devil’s Dung!’
Breitbart's Big Peace ^ | February 28, 2015 | Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.

In his address to the Italian Confederation of Cooperatives Saturday, Pope Francis employed muscular language in speaking about money — while acknowledging its importance to business. “Money,” he said, “is the devil’s dung.”

“It is not easy to talk about money,” Francis said. Quoting Saint Basil the Great, the Pope said: “Money is the dung of the devil! When money becomes an idol, it rules over a person’s choices. And then it ruins a person and condemns him, turning him into a slave.”

The Pope called for “creative imagination” to find new methods, attitudes and tools to combat the “culture of waste,” in which the world is immersed, “fueled by the powers that govern the economic and financial policies of the globalized world, whose center is the god of money.”

This isn’t the first time that Francis has resorted to a scatological illusion to denounce the evils of mammon. In a homily given in September 2013, the Pope used the same expression to decry wealth....

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

For the love of money is the root of all evil,.... Of all the evils before mentioned, and of others; not money itself, as silver and gold, which are God's creatures, and his gifts, and may be used to, and answer many good purposes; but the love of it, and not any love of it; for there may be a lawful love of it, and desire after it, so far as it is requisite to the necessaries of life, to answer the calls of Providence, the duties we owe to God and men, to serve the interest of Christ, and do good to fellow creatures and fellow Christians: but it is an immoderate insatiable desire after it, and an inordinate love of it, which is here meant, such as is properly idolatry: as when a man loves it, not only besides, but above God; serves it as if it was God, and places his trust and confidence in it, independent of God, and his providence; such love of it is the source and spring of all iniquity, as above; it was the sin of Judas, and the root of all his iniquity. The phrase is Jewish. So idolatry is said to be , "the root of all iniquities" (q); see Hebrews 12:15

The collection plate will be lighter in a few hours.

It will soon be time for them to sell more letters of indulgence?

The Pope’s attack on money and the modern “throwaway culture” is misplaced in that it criticizes the “creative destruction” that is one of capitalism’s virtues, with human ingenuity developing improved products and technologies that supplant older and less capable ones. In such comments the Pope reveals that he believes in the Marxist critique of capitalism.

I don’t believe James needs any assistance from Francis:

“Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you.” (5:1-6)

Even dung has its uses. As a fertilizer for growing things for example.

With your comment I most heartily endorse you because people are missing the point.

this Francis stuff really needs to be investigated or he’s gotta’ go.- he’s a marxist for crying out loud and endorses gerbal (sic) warming, etc.... He wouldn’t even meet with Dalai Lama for pete’s sake because he was afraid of “upsetting the Chinese’ “FEELING”. I’m no buddhist or whatever you want to call them but to turn down a major religious figure in a meeting? call me crazy.

AH!, perhaps HE is the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

personally i don’t endorse him at all

But its not the creation is evil.. it you worshiping a false God....

In God eyes is it any different to worship the a false idol of green money as god then it is to worship false idol of a green tree as god?..

A lot my of pope “sympathsizer friends” love the fact that he lives in very frugal surroundings eschewing “papal trappings”. i don’t endorse the papacy at all I have a problem with the entire catholic church on it’s quest to send out messages not only to the US and other countries that the US is the LAND OF THE FREE & EASY

I wouldn't definitively say that creative destruction is a virtue. A lot of modern technology and (and the resulting products) from so-called advances makes life easier and more convenient, but better? No. Are we better off with mass-produced clothing from china? Are we better off with iphones and androids and who knows what else locked onto our hips, never letting us get away from work? Are we better off with the previously unimaginable access to fatty/tasty/sugar-filled/genetically-modified foodstuffs? It's better than starving at least. The human body is the ultimate tool and weapon, but modern "civilized" man has the luxury of letting it decay into a mound of useless fat.

Are we better off with constant, never-ending international transit and trade? Nope. Are we better off with TVs in every room? Nope. The march of human progress has trampled a lot of what was wholesome into the ground.

About your comment:

Francis is an idiot.

The Catholic Church is far from “one of the wealthiest organizations in the world.” Especially if you were to divide the Church’s money and property among the one billion Catholics in the world, and if you consider how much of that “wealth” consists of schools and hospitals that serve the poor.

Money is a tool. Money in itself is not evil. It’s what people do with it that causes evil.

Maybe we can now use this to end the ever-expanding welfare state.

In before “he was mistranslated” again.

You see your statement you’ve made falls exactly into the response trap it was meant to be.

go & live your life -this joker named Fracas (sic) is

merely mouthing LEFTIST words that only have impact

on socialists/marxists.

He DOES NOT provide any solution.

I could place a chair on my sidewalk , say the same thing &

draw a crowd. The crowd will listen but when the speech is

over they go home.

Pope Fracus offers no solutions. It’s the best way to

agitate socialists,facists & marxists-
