Pride and despair are characteristic of those who do not believe what God says of Himself. Joy and humility are characteristic of those who do believe.
Thanks, I will.
One cannot be "saved" and keep on sinning.
John 5:28&29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Mat. 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Ummm ... someone needs to cast the demons out of Obama, then!
Actually, it is only your sinfulness that recommends you to Christ and his sacrifice as a remedy to your sinfulness and the open door to salvation and Heaven.
He came for the sinful, not the righteous.
In order to receive this precious gift of grace, we must first let go of our pride and admit we are sinners and deserve the just punishment for our iniquities. Then we receive the gift of God which is eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. Praise be to the Lord for His unspeakable gift!
Yes. I am a flawed human being, as are we all, and I live in hope of the forgiveness of God. Was not Christ sent to us so that our sins could be forgiven and we could see God? Is that not what he meant by "No one comes to the Father except through me"?
So many say it on their death bed. My good friend said it,
“I have been a bad man all my life and I am not going to go to God now!” We begged him to, pray God he did.
As long as Satan can keep you convinced of it.
I'm not aware of any scripture showing people being saved against their will; and if you do not ASK to be saved; I doubt that you WILL be!
Here we go!
Stories like this REALLY tick off the older brother of the Prodigal Son!
Also them guys that signed up early to work in the vineyard.
Jonah doesn’t exactly jump for joy; either.
:-)
The Greek word used there that has been translated “remember” actually means “call to mind” or “mention”. It doesn’t mean He “can’t remember”. It simply means He will never call them to mind or mention again.
Here we go!
Yep, you noticed to too, Els? I don't buy it of course. Paul was saved the same way we are, by faith. I am sure he got water baptized, but all it did was get him wet, as we are saved before we take the bath. Elsie, we are not discussing brain surgery here. Keep up the good work.
(2 Samuel 9:8,Luke 5:8,Hebrews 13:5,Luke 12:32,Mark 5:36,John 6:29,1 John 5:13,Rev 21:7,1 John 5:5)
AHHHhhh...
The keyword!
To all those who wish to claim that salvation is attained by belief AND 'baptism', or AND 'works', or AND anything else; the bible is CLEAR that it is Unbelief that'll nix the deal everytime.
THIS verse gets trotted out all the time:
Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
"SEE THERE!" they'll say! "Ya GOTTA BE BAPTIZED to be saved!" placing the spotlight on the FIRST part of the verse, but the SECOND half behind the curtain so to speak.
... but he that believeth not shall be damned.
It does NOT say...
but he that BAPTIZETH not shall be damned.
We all know it and you see it hanging over the railing in most every sports event in the USA.
The most IGNORED verse appears to be the one 2 verses away:
John 3:18 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
He that believeth in him is not judged. But he that doth not believe, is already judged: because he believeth not in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
believeth not...
Simple, direct, to the point. Doesn't say "Worketh" not... Doesn't say "Baptizeth" not... Doesn't say "Prayeth the Rosary" not... Doesn't say "Believeth the wafer becomes real flesh" not... ...just "believeth not".
There were former murderers and from the sound of some of the Pauline epistles there were former homosexuals among the disciples. Their sins were not too great. They repented, regretted their sins and made every effort to turn away from them, and turned to God, asking for forgiveness. Paul persecuted and killed Christians before believing, repenting, asking for forgiveness and turning away from his sins.
