Try reading any randomly-selected page of the book “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius, emperor of Ancient Rome, and you’ll see exactly what has happened to IQs.
“his has made us less receptive to God revealed in nature and in scripture. “
Not at all true. It was my engineering and science background that drove me to an understanding and acceptance of the grandeur of God’s handiwork
Rising IQs? Than how do you explain 0bama being elected twice?
Deep Bravo Sierra!
According to the article’s thesis, the average IQ went up 30 points in a century.
Sorry, ‘Tard! This is still planet earth, not Lake Woebegone.
No, we are not all above average. Specially the ‘Tard who scribbled this article.
Lucifer was the most brilliant angel created by God.
(Food for thought)
I think you’re on to something here. Materialism and huberous go hand and hand.
Hear Hear!
I know of one who tested out at 172, and there are tests for those kinds of minds.
The smartest one I have met was, to use her mother’s words, “well beyond freaky bright”, a term used for those above profoundly gifted.
At age 11 she had read some 2,000/2500 adult books, had a total recall memory of all contents thereof, and was comfortable thinking in terms of what she had read.
Example: “Islam has been attacking the Christian World since it began. The only thing that saved it was the science the Church fought against for so long. What I want to know is why we don’t use our nuclear advantage while we still have it?”
When I asked her if she could repeat that for the camera, she said “I can remember everything I have ever said.” Her mother verified that.
Yes, she had read quite a bit regarding such weapons and their effects.
She also had read Churchill on Islam.
Sigh - - - where can I trade my mind for one like that?
This a fascinating article.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiachWhen critically analyzed it yields the following,
All persons referenced for support are Communists
or Rabid Progressives. As General Schwarzkopf would say "Bovine scatology"
A former member of Mensa and Intertel.
And a born again believer in Yah'shua.
same here. And DH graduated first in his class at MIT, scored a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT, and is the most devout believer you will ever meet. Christianity does not require you to check your brain at the door. As a matter of fact, the more you know, the more you realize there is a God. The human body and the known universe are too wonderfully engineered to have been an accident.
The results of the '08/'12 election and re-election of one Barry Soetoro (aka "Obama," if you can believe that) are not the hallmarks of a High-IQ operation, either. Rising IQs? Yeah, right.
...The only thing that saved it was the science the Church fought against for so long....

And those IQ tests were taken with a non-mechanical lead pencil on actual, non-recycled paper, without the assistance of a calculator. Long ago, when my chronological age (factored into the Intelligence Quotient) was much less, my quotient was pretty high. I'll tell you what: I'd give my eye teeth to have the kind of smarts my illiterate-to-semi-literate immigrant grandparents had! They had so much more! They knew from personal experience; the wisdom of their elders; their Faith, passed from generation to generation; read to them and spoken to them by their parish priests, reenacted in festivals and processions to teach and unite the faithful. Humility. Humility to realize that God, life, and the world were bigger than they were. Mine were the ones who were looked down on because of their poverty, illiteracy, and the place they came from. Here they came and banded together because they had the sense to realize that people needed one another, and needed God. They had compassion for others, coming from the common experiences of pain and suffering that were part of their everyday lives. No written test can measure these.
If we, with all our technology don't realize that, the numbers mean nothing. Fact is, our grandparents were far wiser in their poverty, humiliation and hardship than most of us will ever be.
“I have been a fan of Jeopardy since the host was Art Fleming.”
Used to be on at noon! He was a good host!
Hubris.
Ever notice that some people who are super smart are really dumb? Belief in God doesn’t have to decline with education. Education only goes so far, science only goes so far, then there’s faith and belief. The latter do not have to be incompatible with the former.
Yes, driftless, what is being created today that will last for centuries like Shakespeare? Very little in my opinion. The teen vampire movies?
If that's true, then I could go to the physics, math, and science departments of many universities and find professors with sub-100 IQs. Ditto for going to firms that work with physics/science-based problems and find the people involved with low IQs. I bet I couldn't. I bet all the geeks in Silicon valley who work in the computer industry have on average very high IQs. I bet all the people deeply involved with the Manhattan project had exceptionally high IQs.
Having a high IQ does not mean a person will be a success in life. But it does denote high intelligence of a sort. And even if smart people occasionally do stupid things (which they do frequently), that does not invalidate the fact that having a high IQ is a much better predictor of success in high intelligence-based enterprises than average or low IQs.
Because the fertilizer is now thicker and heavier. The bad seed that would have died off before now propagate the most. The best seed propagates the least. There is no way the seed quality could be getting better, but the bell curve is definitely getting wider.
“...weve had standardized IQ tests, and over those 100 years there has been a consistent, linear increase in IQ scores, on the order of 3 points per decade”
Stopped reading right there. First of all, most IQ tests are knowledge tests and not IQ tests. Second, people have gotten dumber without questions.
Idiocracy, the movie, is not documentary.
