Good read. I am routinely struck by Abraham’s other side. Gen. 12, Gen. 20, even Gen. 15:7ff. The man was granted righteousness through nothing he did, but still sold out his wife to Abimelech to save his own keister. And, in spite of being rescued, turned right around and demanded a sign from God that He would deliver on certain promised benefits. From this perhaps all we can gather is that no one is personally righteous, no one is good, no one understands...fully. Paul is painfully correct (Rom. 3). We are all weak, self-serving, self-protective broken men/women. But, God’s grace (truly unmerited favor given to the undeserving) sweeps over us...if we are among those God has written on His hand.
It’s an encouragement to all of us to see what God will take and what He can do with it to His own glory.
It takes a lot of pressure off from constantly putting expectations on ourselves and others that no man can ever hope to meet.
Amen, and amen.
Great post...Thanks...
Amen!
These verses spring to mind when I contemplate that very thing...
"What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?"...."Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord."...."I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (2 Samuel 9:8,Luke 5:8,Hebrews 13:5)
"...if we are among those God has written on His hand."
and in His book...
"Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him." (Malachi 3:16,17)
(2 Samuel 9:8,Luke 5:8,Hebrews 13:5)
(Malachi 3:16,17)
Absolutely...great reminders.
