I have written the New Years resolutions which I am planning on accomplishing.
Daily Mass
I definitely plan on accomplishing this New Years resolution as faithfully as I can. There are many days which make going to Daily Mass exhausting such as College, studying, and other personal obligations, nevertheless this is something that I am definitely adding in my New Years resolution. Many people fail to realize the abundant graces which come from attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and that includes attending Mass Daily. For those interested Fr Chad Ripperger gives very good insights in both the nature of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in his talk Daily Mass and frequent Confession (remember that the talks of Father Ripperger are penance wear) which means you have to give a small donation or at least offer up a decade of the rosary for the intentions of his apostolate. I myself also wrote about the very nature of the Mass.
Daily Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament
This is one of the hardest things I hope to accomplish this year. I already know from the start that I will miss various days for various reasons. Nevertheless hopefully I can accomplish this most days. This is also a great area in which many people can grow in various graces. There is no better place to go when you have problems or questions regarding a variety of personal aspects than our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. This is specifically true as I discern the priesthood and religious life.
Strict Observance of ember days
This is likewise going to be somewhat of a difficult challenge for me. First and foremost because this is a Church Tradition that I am only beginning to learn about. For this reason I have a tendency to forget about a particular ember day. Nevertheless I plan on strictly observing these days as any other day of fasting and abstinence. For those interested, FishEaters has two great pages on both fasting and abstinence, and also on the ember days in particular which you can read here and here
Reading and studying Holy Scripture daily
This is something that I lacked in towards the last portion of this year. I am planning on getting back in tract and doing this very thing daily. Just as St. Jerome truthfully quoted Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. For this reason I want to try and make this a daily habit.
Studying our Holy Catholic Faith on a daily basis
I am lastly going to make it a New Years resolution to study the Holy Catholic Faith in a daily basis. This obviously includes reading Holy Scripture, reading the recent Catechism of the Catholic Church, the other various great Catechisms, various other apologetic material, and lastly the various lives of the Saints. I am also going to learn as much about the various Traditions of our Holy Faith which give the Church its beautiful history and traditions, as well as its sublime truth. There is much to learn about the Catholic Faith that it is too overwhelming to write down. It was only about a year and a half ago for example that I learned about the Traditional Latin Mass, and only recently that I learned about Ember days. There are a great host of things such as Thomism and the great variety of religious charisms and spritualities as well which are fascinating to discover and learn about
What are your New Years resolutions?
I am interested about what readers of this website are planning on doing for their New Years resolutions.
Let the Holy Spirit teach you ... HE really knows what HE'S talkin' about
Happy New Year
So, you are a Catholic - so am I but I don’t have to write it down to know what to do. Perhaps writing it down for others gives your ego a pat on the back.
I think you are being uncharitable. This person shared his/her thoughts and plans with us. I don’t think that’s bad. And I’ve never heard of “ember days” so I’ll have to click that link and learn something new.
Happy New Year.
I’m just hoping 2015 will be a whole lot better than 2014 was, because in a lot of ways this was the worst year of my life. Really, I’ve had worse, but this one felt the worse.
So, best wishes to all Freepers of all Faiths and no Faith!
I like “Reading and studying Holy Scripture daily.” That’s more important than anything else!
I hope to save more for retirement this year.
For last several years I’ve had the same New Year Resolution, that is; not to make a New Year Resolution, sounds easy but every year I’m tempted.
Interpret it the way you want, that’s what I did, too, after thirty years of evaluating human behavior.
Also, based on the world as it is now, I expect 2015 to be worse than 2014. Hopefully, you have water, food, other essentials stored. Good luck to all.
Great resolutions!
Sorry to hear about last year being bad. I will keep you in my prayers.
Sorry I didn’t mean to write my New Year’s resolution as a means of pride or ego. I simply meant to start a conversation with readers from my website. That is precisely why I ended it by asking readers what their own new year’s resolutions were.
God Bless
Arturo
Thanks walking! I wish you the best in your resolutions!
1. Continue to go to daily Mass.
2. Go to confession at least once a month. I often just forget.
3. Continue to say a daily rosary.
4. Be kind to numbnuts.
5. Try to ignore the Pope Francis bashers and folks who post anti-Catholic remarks (if the RM should miss it). The Church has survived the gainsayers for 2000 years and DOESN'T need me to pipe in my rancor towards them.
6. Do more of the following two exercises:
a. The "push-away" from the table and
b. the motion of the head that goes from side-to-side, accompanied with the words: "No thank you. None for me."
That last one is the TOUGHIE!
I think my new year eve resolution is to bring more people into my life. The kids have gone and in order to maintain a relationship with their father who has decided after 14 years to pay attention to them, they have to minimize their relationship with me. I have decided to accept that, but I am finding a hole in my life.
I think I want to reach out and find people to engage with and enjoy. Raising, homeschooling, and supporting the children meant working 60 to 70 hours a week, and over time I lost my supports and friends. And now my family.
Time to begin anew. There is a lovely couple young couple that I know who have asked me over for dinner. And there is a young man who is a neighbor and his widowed mother. Nice people who might need more connection. There is a young lady neighbor nearby who I have gotten to know and enjoy, and I helped her find a job recently.
I have decided to eschew leftists and their ilk. Ultimately the gulf is too wide. I no longer want to bridge it. Recently I was working and scheduling had all eight of us conservatives working together. We realized it half way through the workday, and reveled in being us...together.
Looking at the possibilities. Over the next year I will join bookclubs, and perhaps host some get-togethers. By autumn my commitments will be few and I would be able to join a church and babysit for people who would enjoy having an extra pair of hands.
Does this make sense or do I sound crazier than usual?
I think you make perfect sense.
I wish you a wonderful and successful 2015, walkinginthedesert. As for me.. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions; however, I have always made birthday resolutions. (I guess I’m odd that way). My most successful one thus far is that I read three books a year on a subject that I’m not familiar with or have any true interest in. Sounds odd, huh? However, I’ve learned about the French Revolution, English gardening, cave exploration, gem mining, etc... I found all the subjects that didn’t interest me BEFORE... were quite interesting after I learned a bit about them. Hugs and Happy New Year! Mom
IMHO.. not only do your ideas make sense but they are fabulous! I personally believe that when life becomes super painful and disappointing.. we can do one of two things. We can become bitter and remove ourselves from others to avoid anymore disappointment OR we can push our pain away by meeting/socializing with others. You sound like your 2015 year will be wonderfully busy and social. Hugs, Mom
I’m praying for you to keep your pledge.
I’m praying for you to keep your pledge.
Thank you, Brother, and may God guide your endeavors in the New Year!
