I think this is very true. What does public nakedness connote? Humiliation, captivity, the slave auction, physical violation. Or madness: a poor lunatic who strips him/herself and goes wandering or madly running into the street.

Private nakedness is trust, belong to a beloved other as if the two were one body: the infant and the nursing mother, the lover and the beloved unclothed to each other in the honor of the marriage bed.

Public nakedness is humiliation, madness, or the utter denial of the private and intimate gift of self: sacrilege.
