I recently had a few young men looking to join the Catholic Church. Their math teacher told them that if they join the Catholic Church, they'll go to Hell.
Nothing surprises me anymore. The reality is that when a Christian is attacked, but in a special a Catholic Christian, Jesus is in turned, attacked.
Matthew 10:16-28
16 Behold , I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up , take no thought how or what ye shall speak : for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak .
20 For it is not ye that speak , but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death .
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved .
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come .
24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered , that shall not be revealed ; and hid, that shall not be known .
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able
When I was in junior high, our priest angrily informed us if we went on a hayride sponsored by our friend’s Baptist church, we’d go to Hell.
Everybody has a pet peeve; I guess the Catholic church is this teachers’ peeve.
Some priests are idiots.
Improper response to stimulus. You're supposed to be Outraged!, not point out that devout on both sides believe similarly.
If you can’t trust your math teacher, who can you trust?(/S)
If one refuses Jesus as Saviour, then one goes to hell...Catholic or Protestant...doesn’t matter!
If that’s the math teacher’s answer then he should be able to show the work.
Mother superior in my catholic grade school had me and me droogs in her office for some unremembered criminal offense. We were 8th graders and moving on to high school. She asked us each what HS we were going to. My buddy ‘ moochy ‘, Told her he was going to public HS. She told him it was a mortal sin(on his parents) not to go to Caholic HS if his parents could afford it. I thought that was pretty lame for Sister to say
If one seeks to lead one away from faith in Christ, and does not repent and turn away from such a path, one is in danger of hell.
The proper response to the math teacher is, “Perhaps ... but at least we’d be out of your math class!”
A member of our church, brought up Catholic, told me when she was a little girl in parochial school a nun told her the same thing about her non-Catholic father. This kind of thing is utter hubris either way (and cruel in the nun’s case).
We were told that Mad Magazine was communist and against
the church.
That’s what was preached from the pulpits in those days. By order of the bishops.
Nowadays, when it really IS a mortal sin to allow your children near a government school, the priests preach nothing.
That’s funny, because MAD Magazine was very anti-Communist. They mocked Khrushchev and Castro constantly. And they never mocked religion. Lots of Jewish in-jokes, but they never mocked religion.
Totally agree. May we preach Christ above all, and not spend too much time distracting people with arguments about denominational preferences.
(Yes, I know that Roman Catholics will say that their denomination is not a denomination, and that there are 50,000 denominational “sects” among the heretical YOPIOS Protestants and theirs is the one true church ... it’s just that kind of denominational arrogance that distracts people from Jesus.)
