Rupert Murdoch Defends Moses Movie Casting: “Since When Are Egyptians Not White?”

Rupert Murdoch took to Twitter tonight to defend 20th Century Fox's new movie "Exodus" that casts Christian Bale as Moses, and a variety of white actors as Egyptians. There’s been scuffle on Twitter ever since Murdoch made his observations. And a lot of this stems from a quote director Ridley Scott gave Variety about why he didn’t use Egyptian or Arab actors for the film. He said: "I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such," Scott says. "I'm just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn’t even come up."

I'm getting a volunteer, fundraising car wash at an Egyptian Coptic church. One of the car washers is a BEAUTIFUL girl with green eyes and a rosy complexion. Hey, I'm a conservative Catholic, I don't look a gorgeous girls other than my wife. The girl is one of those who is so beautiful, it's problem for other people, they keep their distance from her. She finally has enough of my pointedly not looking her, she goes "Ahh-ahh-ahh!", gets right in the middle of the windshield waving her arms around while drying the car with a towel so I'll HAVE to look at her. My beef isn’t the casting, but the characters. It’s a given that Ramses the Great wasn’t the Pharaoh of the Exodus; it was probably someone much earlier, perhaps Dudimose, and then there’s David Rohl’s theory that Ramses was the Pharaoh of the sacking of Jerusalem in Rheoboam’s reign, for which the evidence is interesting.

Well, heck, they are casting a black guy to be Johnny Storm in the next Fantastic Four movie. Sue Storm and Johnny Storm are brother and sister. They aren’t casting a black woman as Sue Storm, either. It requires a stretching of the original story, unintended but obscure pun about Mr. Fantastic.

I don’t really have a problem with a black guy being The Human Torch, if he is a good actor. I’m just saying.

I think they should make the movie with Chinese actors. That should go over well in China. With over a billion possible moviegoers in China, the film would certainly make a profit. And after all, isn’t that what Hollywood is all about?

Egyptians 3500 years ago were not European in countenance but neither were they Semites. Their depictions in the murals they left suggest something like Berber with a small Negro admixture. The ruling class was surely light skinned compared to the general population. That seems to be a rule in ALL societies. With all the conquering and trading to the south there has to be some Negro influence there. There was, I believe a series of Pharaohs that hailed from Sudan or Ethiopia.

Having drained California, the 49 (or 56) other states and even Vancouver, Canada, the Hollywood locusts have to fly to greener pastures to strip clean of cash to make movies.

A young student of mine was getting into his Jewish roots, so I recommended that he get his parents to rent “The Ten Commandments”. I asked him how he liked the movie.

“Well,” he said, “I don’t understand something about it.”

(I steeled myself for some deep theological question, that I, as a Christian, might not be able to answer)

“What is the question?” I asked.

He looked at me with perfect innocence and asked:

“What was MOSES doing on the Planet of the Apes?”

(I actually knew one of Charlton Heston’s caregivers during the last few months of his life, and this story was shared with him. He got an amused chuckle out of it, from what was told to me.)

I looked up earlier Caucasian in Merriam Webster dictionary online regarding another thread and this is what I found

Definition of CAUCASIAN
