Russia Positions Herself as a “Light to the World” During Pro-Family Conference

Moscow Gathering Plays Out Against Backdrop of International Sanctions

For those who came of age during the Cold War, the idea that Christian Westerners would be invited as special guests inside the Kremlin seems unthinkable. But this was the scene at the International Forum on Large Families and the Future of Humanity, held in Moscow September 10-11.

More than 1,000 pro-life, pro-family participants traveled from around the world to attend the Forum, which was headlined by high-profile Russian Ministers and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill I.

The event received enthusiastic support from the Russian government, which allowed the conference to be held within the Kremlin State Palace and the iconic Cathedral of Christ the Savior. President Vladimir Putin even sent a greeting to conference participants, lamenting Russia’s “large-scale demographic crisis” and the global “erosion of moral values.”

Konstantin Malofeev, chairman of the St. Basil the Great Foundation, said during the high-level panel that Russia sees herself as a bulwark, defending traditional Christianity against secular humanism imported from the West.

“We all are witnessing now an unprecedented triumph of Orthodoxy, which has not been since antiquity,” said Malofeev. “And we wish the same for Europe. In recent years, Russia passed laws prohibiting advertising of abortion and the promotion of homosexuality among minors.

“It's not like our Western friends who impose the culture of death,” he added. “Some Western counterparts have entered diplomatic practice to send, on behalf of the State Department for embassies, directives to support non-traditional family units throughout the world. It seems to me, the Russian Foreign Ministry could adequately respond by sending back a directive to support traditional family units and family values.”

“directives to support non-traditional family units throughout the world”

This sickens me more than anything. When deciding on who we nominate for president, they MUST be asked will they dismantle this effort yes/no?

Must be a very benighted world to be illuminated by the Russian light.

When has Russia EVER lived as a good, inspirational Christian nation, a light to the world.

Even as their tanks are rolling into Ukraine, the traditional russian propaganda is sent out to the world, and it is always the same, they are the hope, the liberators, just submit to their tanks rolling across your borders.

Putin actually cares about restoring Christianity, protecting the rights of the unborn, cracking down on feminism, and protecting his people from the Islamic menace. Admiral Barackbar hates Christianity, wants to force everyone to bow in the direction of Mecca five times a day, wants to sacrifice children in the name of his moon god, and wants to have America adopt the Soviet economic model. Putin is not perfect, but why am I supposed to believe that he is worse than Soetoro?

I am not Catholic, but I will mention that the Miracle of Fatima (1917) kind of points to this:

According to Sister Lúcia, the Virgin Mary promised that the Consecration of Russia would lead to Russia's conversion and an era of peace.

Maybe Putin isn't there. I don't really consider him a Good Guy.

But Lord knows the USA is not in any sense a Light Unto the World these days.

I guess it’s off limits to mention, then, the fact that Pro-Russian Terrorists/Trained Soldiers and “Ukrainian” Rebels were sent to Eastern Ukraine and tortured and murdered evangelical Christians..

Putin, extremely aggressive, Obama, extremely passive. Putin wants to bring back communism to Russia and eventually the world (that ol’ KGP programming is hard to overcome), Obama wants to rule the world through passive introduction of communism. Not seeing much of a difference in ideology, only in method. IMHO

I base my Putin comments on his statements and actions of late ... about have nuclear weapons and willing to us them as an example and his aggressive military over flights of sovereign countries.

No doubt about that.
Dearth of moral leadership here.

I hate to be cynical, but one of Putin’s more important goal is to increase Russia’s population - this may account for his pro family stance.

That’s something that has been argued. Some say, yes, Russia was converted. Others, say that it didn’t take place yet.

A big difference is that Obama will be replace in just over two years, Putin won’t be so easy to get rid of.

Putin is a situational Christian. It’s the veneer of his pseudo conservatism. He could stop abortion. He has the power. But he won’t. He was a faithful communist secret policeman, like his father. And today he’s using Christian issues as a smoke screen to cover up his autocracy and anti-democratic activities. He’s about empire and himself. Nothing more.

Invasions, war, murder, genocide, removal of freedoms is now “light to the world” ... “pro-family” ?

Calling evil good is unforgivable, sinning against Holy Spirit. Russians are a curse.

I think this outburst of light is happening despite the fact that Russia wasn't consecrated properly. Imagine how pleasing to God Russia would be by now if the consecration had been done properly! (could still happen but unlikely with this pope).

So okay, all you naysayers.

Answer me this?

Would it be possible to have a like conference in America today... enthusiastic support from the Russian American government, which allowed the conference to be held within the Kremlin State Palace the Capital ...and "President Vladimir Putin O'bummer even sent a greeting to conference participants...

Be honest. There would rioting/looting/IRS targeting etc etc throughout the country...and our Pres_ent in the white hut would be fanning the flames.
