Sometimes, the tinier an organism is, the more deadly. Viruses are smaller than bacteria, but they are harder to conquer!
Perhaps the same can be said of gnats. It is much easier to swat a large fly than it is to swat a gnat, and these tiny creatures have ruined many a camping trip or summer evening. In Egypt, they became a Plague, as foul and distressing as the others.

In the teachings of Jesus, the gnat symbolizes "majoring in the minors" at the expense of true holiness.
