Why That Story About Irish Babies "Dumped In A Septic Tank" Is A Hoax

Few of us are inclined to look a gift horse in the mouth, and that applies in spades to journalists running with a sensational news story. But even by normal media standards, recent reports about the bones of 796 babies being found in the septic tank of an Irish orphanage betray a degree of cynicism and irresponsibility rarely surpassed by allegedly reputable news organizations.

Although the media attributed the “dumped in a septic tank” allegation to Catherine Corless, a local amateur historian, she denies making it. Her attempt to correct the record was reported by the Irish Times newspaper on Saturday (see here) but has been almost entirely ignored by the same global media that so gleefully recycled the original suggestion. That suggestion, which seems to have first surfaced in the Mail on Sunday, a London-based newspaper, reflected appallingly on the Sisters of Bon Secours, the order of Catholic nuns at the center of the scandal.

Why tell the truth when a lie is so much more juicy?

People today are uneducated...they don’t know what “agitprop” means and they don’t know the destruction that it causes as they gleefully (and ignorantly) repost various sickening stories/hoaxes.

That original story was written from a septic tank. Just eh MSM wanting others to join them in their septic tank, even if it’s dead babies.

Winston Smith apparently had a day off so these anti-Christian morons took advantage of the opportunity to publish their lies.

Even the Forbes article feels the need to throw in a bit of modern political-correctness by mentioning “harridan nuns.” it also neglected to mention

The so-called septic tank was located completely on another part of the Tuam Mother’s home property

Every child who died at the home had a death certificate registered with the government - hardly the act of nuns secretly dumping bodies.

There is absolutely no proof that the children were denied Christian rites of burial

The more I read, the more I see that AP, WaPo, Daily Mail, etc... didn’t just stretch the truth, they outright LIED.

With a septic tank culture able to digest hundreds of babies, I could start a septic tank business that would bankrupt Roto-Rooter and a good size portion of the plumbing industry.

Nothing was ever said about a septic being used to “digest” the bodies, only that some of the missing bodies have been found in an abandoned septic tank.

Catholic sources claimed that the septic tank was especially converted for the use, and that a shrine was built for it.

I was alarmed not so much of the way the babies bodies were disposed of but because the article said they were malnourished. Was that part a lie?

Boatbums posted this on FR, with the commentary, “The development is a yet another damning disclosure of a Church-run institution in Ireland following almost countless revelations of abuse and neglect at Catholic-run schools or institutions in recent decades.”

That "commentary" was part of the original article. Are you now denying that there HAVE been numerous revelations of abuse and neglect at Catholic-run schools and institutions? May I remind you that the Catholic church in Ireland has been in recent news, that bishops and priests HAVE been exposed there as allowing child sex abuse to go on and that the Catholic church HAS paid billions in reparations to victims in the U.S.? Is all that just "agitprop" and the imaginings of those you label as "anti-Catholic"?

It should be no surprise that on that thread FRoman Catholics dragged out the SAME accusations towards "Protestants" by bringing up Bethany House and Magdalene Laundries scandals and now genocide by "Protestant" governments. Somehow, that all is valid but anything that can be shown as negative associated with the Catholic church is just lies and propaganda? And you have to ask why there is out-of-the-gate animosity and antagonism that flares up here? How about a dose of reality?

Today the Irish Times has published a reader’s letter that has further undercut the story. Finbar McCormick, a professor of geography at Queen’s University Belfast, sharply admonished the media for describing the children’s last resting place as a septic tank. He added: “The structure as described is much more likely to be a shaft burial vault, a common method of burial used in the recent past and still used today in many part of Europe.

Why are you worried? Are you worried the truth might get out?

Yet when Narses tried to correct the story, Bramps accused her of “defending evil.”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That's quite an allegation. Care to back it up?
My post was #15. Please show me the post and specific words where Narses attempts to correct anything specific about the story prior to my post.

Do not make this thread 'about' individual Freepers.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
