Its really not that complicated:
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV)
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Guided by the Holy Spirit, a child can understand God's Word. Its only complicated to those who choose to make it that way.
Psalm 119:130 (KJV)
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
“One of the first things I remember learning in Sunday School was a statement, God said it, I believe it and that settles it. “
I think that is supposed to be “God said it and that settles it.” Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant and doesn’t affect that statement.
Your version may very well be. But I was four when I first learned it in Sunday School. Of course at that time I was also learning there were other things I learned to believe. Like the one “If you talk back to me one more time you’re going to get a spanking and you best believe it”.
I prefer to leave the “I believe it” in my version as I have never considered it irrelevant when it comes to stating my position concerning God’s teachings.
