I suspect you comment was sarcasm, but...
I was highly offended when I saw this on many, many levels. From Pelosi being a Catholic and then pulling this stunt outside the Catholic faith to turn it into political theatre, to the whole symbolic nature of a government official seeming to endorse/use a religious event like this to not act as a servant of the people, but to literally ‘wag her finger’ in the faces of the people as if she has any moral authority to do this.
It is not just the hypocrisy of the moment, but the blasphemy of the message of gospel and an infringement on the religious liberty of the faithful. Somebody asked me how I saw this as an infringement and I explained the true meaning behind the washing of the feet by Jesus and how this obnoxious display, by a heretical Catholic, leads astray the people of faith into the arms of placing their ‘faith in government’ over their faith in God.
You are right, of course, in that she she has used this as a self-promoting act, however, it is kind of nice to see her on her knees for a change ;-)
