Pope Francis has brought American Catholics to their knees.

As the pontiff wraps up his first year in the Vatican, a new poll has found that 40 percent of his U.S. flock says they are praying more often than they did a year ago.

It could be one sign of what's being called the "Francis Effect" — the impact of a very popular pope with the common touch who isn't afraid to shake things up.

Amazing that more American Catholics are really, really PRAYING for Pope Francis.

But Obama has caused more people to pray than the slaves that lived under pharoah

Correlation is not causation.

Money problems and insurance concerns cause people to pray more.

My prayer habits haven’t changed. Still saying the Joyful Mysteries on Thursday.

Agreed. The dire condition of our country/world are enough to drive many to their knees, without the help of this pope.

Reading the posts in the Religion Forum, I think they're praying for a different pope.

I am giving Pope Francis the benefit of the doubt at this point.

I could get alot of people to come to my house if I offer them free money? Who is coming though and what happens when they get here and there is no free money, only hard work? How many will stay and for how long?

Some Egyptian lawyer claimed Israel still owed them for all the stuff they swiped at The Exodus.

Don’t know how he did under the brief stint there with the muslim brotherhood, but paddling thus ‘gainst a sea of islamists can’t be too healthy.

I don’t know that popularity would be high on my list of requirements for a pope.

Some people at my parish really have warmed up to Francis’ compassion and informality. I could believe they might be praying a bit more. Might their renewed commitment be a tad shallow? Well, maybe, but it’s a good start.

You mean that you don’t pray the Sorrowful Mysteries as some recommend for the 40 days of Lent?

Hi, my little Rosary booklet says the Sorrowful Mysteries are used on Sundays in Lent (in addition to Tues and Fri), but I see nothing about Thursdays. I just pray the traditional Mysteries on the same day all year, though. My deficiency, I guess.

By “some”, whom are you referring to?

I do all the mysteries of the Rosary, not just the sorrowful because I want to cover all of the aspects of Christ’s life this Lent.
