Yes and it suprised me not at all.
Here's my take.
If I'm already saved and my ticket to heaven is punched, guaranteed, done and done so to speak, why does it matter how I treat some shmuck who's waiting tables? There are no consequences for me if I treat the young lady or young man as a complete nonentity who doesn't deserve my loose change. I'm going to heaven, brother!!!
All that remains is the self-righteousness of the "saved" as they eat well and luxuriate in the conviction of the certitude of their eternal destiny. No you won't be getting a decent tip! You didn't refill my coffee and a future member of the choir celestial deserves better than that!!!
Well, I was gonna say ‘fat’, but didn’t want to get flamed.
I heard it was a good place to eat.
I am split, on this. Once, my wife and I went to dinner to celebrate her girlfriend’s BDay, it was a party of 10, no built in gratuity. When the check came, I passed the GF’s husband more than enough to cover our portion, plus 20%.
I was mortified, when he left a $10 tip FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP, and explained, “hey, I’d be happy if someone handed me $10”. Never went out with that crowd, again.
On the other hand, I was with a group where the 18% was added in, there was inadequate staffing to cover the table, and the waiters were practically non-existent. It was pretty obvious there was no motivation to provide service, as the tip was automatic. Never went back to that place, either.
Our liberal relatives are the same.
We were all in San Diego celebrating my father-in-law’s 80th birthday (most of them are in Omaha so this was a nice winter getaway for everyone) and we went to an expensive seafood restaurant on the water at FIL’s suggestion.
There were 16 people, the table was occupied for around 2.5 hours and when I suggested at 1.5 hours that maybe we should move on since we’d all finished eating and the server needed to ‘turn the table’, I was told “we’re paying enough, there’s no reason we can’t sit here and take our time.” REALLY? While the server only waits on OUR TABLE for half her shift?
The restaurant only added 15% and my husband and I were so upset with his siblings and father’s behavior about hogging the table for so long that we added a fair bit of cash behind on the table. Someone in the group had the nerve to PICK IT UP and hand it to my husband outside, saying “we paid our 15%, it was added to the bill.” This is a restaurant with top notch service, someone always standing by to replace a dropped napkin or utensil, refill your water after practically every drink, etc. and these dolts thought 15% was too much tip and after hogging a table for all those hours at dinner! Hubby took the money right back in and gave it to our server.
Thanks for posting this. I think the website is an interesting idea and I liked the video the pastor put together on the site.
In truth, I'm a little surprised. Libs are usually pretty generous with other people's money. :-) Though, the one who pocketed some of my tip, didn't give the cash back to me. And, I've not seen him since. Mrs WBill was pretty mortified by his behavior.
Which is fine with me. :-)
