I’m not casting anything. I suggest you watch the film and then report back later. I’m not trying to pick a fight but rather stand up for the ennerant Word of God.
It’s hard for me to get around the fact that if you do a movie on the Bible, there’s no excuse for not including the most important parts.
Like the amazing, glorious nature of God. And the blood atonement of Jesus Christ—to name a couple.
The fact that the movie skips these things just screams “false teacher” in my opinion.
I thought you didn't want people to see the film - now you suggest I go see the film?
You are sounding a bit confused.
Did you actually hear Roma Downey blaspheme the Lord, or not?
Yup, they need to burn in hell for that.
I'm not hearing much in the way of grace and mercy in these "Son of God" threads - the unbelievers must be impressed.
This has nothing to do with grace, mercy or burning in hell.
It’s about not watching a movie which only portrays falsehoods.
If we view the Bible as a work of literature, then changing the original message and the characterization would perhaps be acceptible. It’s just entertainment in this case.
But if we consider the Bible to be an account of history, such changes are outright lies.
If you believe the Bible is a work of fiction, then you should admit it.
Otherwise, what is the value in wasting your time to watch a distortion of the truth?
Oh please. . .if you haven’t watched it and are comfortably ensconced in your Christian faith I suggest you go and see if you can discover the omissions.
I cannot in all good conscience recommend the movie.
I have never suggested that people don’t see the film.
I have been giving my opinion and observation. Isn’t that what FR is all about. Public discourse? I have never commented on Roma Downey’s speaking parts in the movie only that she is totally responsible for the contents of movie.
And Pilate never looked at Jesus and said “are you the son of God”. And Jesus of course never said “I am”.
Pilate says “Are you the King of the Jews”. Jesus replied
“It is as you say”.
I posted last week that this new movie was just a reedited version of the not very good mini-series.
With Downey and Burnett using Joel Osteen and Rich Warren as technical advisors what could be expected.
I’ve seen Jesus of Nazareth many times, it’s a great movie, but this one will give it a run for it’s money. The narrative is 100% scripture. Not even Jesus of Nazareth can say that. I came out about the same time as the Passion but got no publicity. It’s great.
Roma Downey didn’t get an annulment from her two husbands and married Burnett in 2007 at her home, with her co-star from Touched by an Angel Della Reese presiding over the wedding.
I couldn’t watch the mini-series. I thought it was horrible with a lot of over acting.
I believe SON OF GOD is mostly clips that were picked up from the cutting room floor.
Something about this couple makes me doubt. When I see they yucking it up with that fraud Olsteen, my doubts are confirmed.

I am not pushing this particular book, but sample a few pages of it:

A lot of passages were out of sequence, out of context.
The thing that bothered me most was although they depicted Jesus’ struggle with his own flesh and drive for self-preservation they never explained the purpose of the Crucifixion. They showed it was God’s will, but I didn’t see anything about this being a sacrifice for my sins.
I pray it will generate some interest for people to learn more about the Son of God.
I agree with you. “Jesus of Nazareth” was the best, most accurate depiction of the life of Christ. I once read an article on Zephirelli on the making of the movie. Zephirelli is a Jewish gentleman. When asked why he chose to make the movie, he said, “There is just something about the story.”
You know, Scripture is the inerrant, God breathed, Holy Spirit inspired word of God.
Mess with it at your own risk.
It doesn’t take rocket science to read the Bible and watch the movie and to see where it falls short. If there are discrepancies, the movie is wrong.
It’s not love to compromise the truth in the name of making people feel good. It’s love to tell them the truth whether they like it or not. If they get offended, they get offended. It happened with Jesus.
Would you call Him unloving when He called the Pharisees *a brood of vipers*?
Would you call Him unloving for clearing the Temple with a whip He made Himself?
Being loving isn’t being all nicey-nice.
I can put up with a lot from people, but don’t mess with Scripture. Holding to the integrity of Scripture IS a mountain to die on.
