HOLLYWOOD, CA, January 30, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) Hollywood loves an underdog unless, it seems, that underdog is a Christian. That's the reaction of one Christian film expert to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' decision to strip the family-friendly motion picture Alone Yet Not Alone of its Oscar nomination for best song.
It's hazing, Dr. Ted Baehr, the founder and publisher of the pro-family Movieguide and chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, told LifeSiteNews.com.
Alone Yet Not Alone is based on a true story about how a family's Christian faith helped them survive after being kidnapped by the Delaware Indians during the French and Indian War.
Songwriters Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel were nominated for the Best Original Song for a theme performed by Joni (pronounced "Johnny") Eareckson Tada, a pro-life evangelical quadriplegic with only 51 percent of her lung capacity.
Can you imagine how this might encourage other people with disabilities? she said upon learning of the nomination last week. Its all about God's power in our weakness, and I love the chance to advance that message!
The Bible is filled with stories of God picking ill-equipped, unskilled people for places of great influence, which is how I feel, as a quadriplegic, singing an Academy Award-nominated song, she said.
But at a board meeting Tuesday night, the Academy announced it was revoking the film's nomination.

The left hates God. It explains everything about them.
The left celebrates and promotes diversity - as long as it strictly conforms to their agenda. Christianity doesn’t, hence it’s gotta go.
Screw ‘em.
God gives better awards, anyway.
“Blessed are you when the world persecutes you for My sake”
Honestly, I would not want an Academy Award in my general air space. The idols Hollywood worships should tell you the company they keep - no thanks!
Yep.
Did anyone try to explain why they revoked the nomination?
Broughton has been an executive board member (on the committee that determines the song nominations) for nine years. He knew better than to directly campaign for his own song with his fellow board members. This isn’t anti-Christian, just stupidity on Broughton’s part.
really? this is bull... nominees shamelessly take out ads in newspapers all the time--promoting themselves to get the Academy to vote for them or their movies...
Because the songwriter is on the committee that determines the nominations. And he solicited his fellow board members. It’s a clear conflict of interest.
Might have been nice to include that in the posted article. It changes the whole nature of the debate.
They genuinely broke the rule about nominee can’t campaign for themself
But studios can....
This Broughton guy campaigned for himself claiming he lacked a Weinstein or Geffen or Katzenberg to do it for him
No doubt Hollyweird does no favors for detested Christianity but its a legit sanction
Funny they didn't remember those rules when Gwyneth Paltrow's Mummy and Daddy shamelessly lobbied the academy members for the movie "Shakespeare in Love."
"Saving Private Ryan" should have won that year.
Let no one forget that there is another very dominate religion in Hollywood. A religion that most of the owners, studio excutives, producers, writers, actors and many others belong. It is Judaism. And although we Christians are their greatest friends, the American Jews despise and hate us for our proselytizing the Christian Faith. In fact it may have played a bigger role in this than the atheist and hedonist of Hollywood.
Yet there were many examples of others doing the same with no backlash including a Japanese animation film.
